The Shadow beings are nasty creatures. Foam comes from their mouths and their eyes are black and hollow. They smell disgusting and all they want to do is kill and eat. “I couldn’t find any deer. I looked all night, but these fuckers have cleared the forest of them. I didn’t want you three to give me shit so I looked for as long as I could!” I lie.

The white light came from somewhere beneath my skin, washing outward, and I was on four legs before I realized that I had moved. The forest went quiet. Every wolf around us stilled. Menae glowed bright under the moonlight, white as the first snow of the season, and she and Shadow stood facing each other for one long breath. Then Shadow pressed his head against hers, slow and certain. And the light from Menae's coat spread outward like a wave, washing over every wolf in that clearing. I felt it go through the bond and through every warrior present like a tide. The healing warmth of the white wolf making them stronger. Steadier. More than they had been for weeks.

Ice asks. “A witch I met in New Orleans,” Bo replies with a smile. Seems like more than a friend to me. “She’ll meet you at the airport when you land in Portland. From there, it’s about a six and a half hour drive to Crescent Shadow territory.” I nod my head. Ice sees my face and turns to them. “Can we go now?” She asks. “Of course,” Gray nods his head. “Get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day, you’ll need your rest.”

Sonny Boy was in full collar and leash, crawling on all fours. Shroud was leading him along, like he was walking a dog. Both of them looked obliterated. Dink couldn’t be sure if their blurry images were actually real. Shroud was wearing vampire white makeup. Sonny Boy was dressed in black leather short-shorts. Shroud tapped him on the butt with the riding crop to keep him moving. Sonny Boy might have been Christ on the way to the cross. He had lash marks all over his back. There were welts on his face.
