After Three Years: She Wakes Up
Around her, test tubes were lying on their sides, some of them rolling off the surface as his dark fingers reached up to tangle in her long, curly hair that rested along her shoulders like a golden cloud.
I’m not sure how long I stood there, unable to move as I held my breath, but it felt like an eternity as I watched the woman move her hands to wrap around his neck. “Kiss me, Con,” her voice was breathy, almost a whisper. “Kiss me like you mean it.”
“Trillium…” he started to say.
I didn’t want to see this. It felt wrong.
Talking a stumbling step backward, I reached for the door handle, which rattled slightly as I pulled open the door and fled.
