Brief Reminder For Short Novels & Stories

As I walked out of the clinic, my phone beeped, and I brought it out to check. The words in the screen was a reminder from the unknown person. "Don't forget our appointment tomorrow. I don't like lateness."

Gio: Tomorrow at noon, don’t forget! After typing that message, I send it to him. I also reminded my friends on our group chat about the time tomorrow. They need to come or else, I will be mad at them because I spent a lot of money today.

I was re-reading my emails when I saw something unusual, it was just sent about 10 minutes ago. ​"Are you ready for her comeback?"

Emma: "Yes, there are a few things that require your attention. You have a meeting with the BB beauty house at 2 PM, and your report on the new product launch is due by the end of the day." Celine: "Okay, thanks for the reminder. I'll get to work on the report right away." Emma: "Great, I'll let you get to it then. If you need anything, just let me know." Celine: "Thanks, Emma. I appreciate it." Celine then walked towards her office, taking a deep breath and trying to focus on the tasks at hand. Around 2pm, Celine stepped out of the elevator and into the lobby of her office, she felt a wave of nausea wash over her.

The message notification from Robert stared back at me, and I eagerly tapped on it. The message was filled with stickers of "Call me" plastered all over. I couldn't help but giggle; it was so typical of Robert to use stickers to make his messages more urgent and playful. He knew it would make me call him immediately. Each sticker was a different bright color, some with exaggerated hand gestures pointing to the phone icon, others with animated characters jumping up and down. It was a lighthearted touch that momentarily lifted the weight of the morning off my shoulders.

“You know I love you the most. Stay happy and don’t forget about to tell Richard to send the ride over by 4pm sharp.” “Okay,” I nodded. “I’ll do that. Goodbye mum.” The seconds before ending the call were filled with kissing sounds – “mwah, mwah, mwah…” from her end. I held back giggles as I finally ended the call. Before I forget, since I have been forgetful lately, I went ahead to check if Richard had seen my message. If he had replied, my phone would have made a sound, and I would have seen a notification. But I hadn’t seen anything yet. Maybe he had seen it and decided it was best not to reply. It wasn’t a problem since the message was short and didn’t need a response.

As I packed up my sketches that I planned to work on over the weekend, my phone buzzed on the table, but I didn’t pick it up immediately because if it was something important, I’d have assumed the person would call me. After about ten minutes of putting my stuff together, I was done packing up for the day and finally picked up my phone to check the time. The time wasn’t what caught my eye though. It was my notification; specifically, the one that came ten minutes ago which I ignored. It was a notification from my Reminders app, reminding me of what tomorrow is – Liam and I’s first anniversary. Shit. How the hell could I have forgotten? And especially now that Liam and I are actually in true

What if he does pick and I get so carried away that I forget some vital topics? Yeah, it’s better this way. After a while and by a while, I mean two hours later, I come back to see he has responded with one simple word. ‘Alright’. I balk at the screen, surprised at how easy it was. When I check the time of the reply, I see that it was sent a minute after. “Hmm,” I hum with my eyes narrowed in suspicion. Afterwards, the gravity of what just occurred hits me. I have a date with Neal in less than three hours.

It read: "Hey Jules, sorry it's so last minute but it's urgent. Do you by chance know any available desk job vacancies? Highly appreciated. Thank you"
