My eyes were still red from crying, and the shadows under my eyes and a haggard face clearly showed how much sleeplessness I had been having lately. Seeing that, I wanted to break the mirror.

The morning light should have made everything clearer. It streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Blackwood penthouse in pale gold ribbons, touching silk sheets and polished marble, softening the edges of a night that had left too many sharp ones behind. Morning was supposed to be forgiving like that. It was supposed to bring reason, distance, perspective. Instead, it brought clarity of the most dangerous kind.

Elena ventures into Astrid's room with precise timing, the clock hands aligning perfectly at 6:00 AM. In that serene hour, the morning light filters through the curtains, infusing the room with a tender, almost poetic luminosity. It was as if the dawn itself had decided to paint a masterpiece within those four walls. Astrid lay swathed in her bed, the tendrils of sleep still caressing her like a lover's gentle snuggle. And in a matter of fact, I was never a morning person, I much prefer to have my room quite dark but if I do that, I may just lock myself in my room the whole day and sleep but that is something I would not like since I'll become super lazy. So, for me to wake up on time, I purposely didn't make my blinds a dark colour allowing light to come in and since the window is next to my bed, as soon as the sun rises, the light would shine through int

Instead, I turned toward the window and spoke, quietly and casually, as if thinking aloud. “They really went overboard with the lighting tonight,” I murmured. “It’s too bright for sleep.” A pause. Then....so soft it almost felt imagined, a voice slid into my awareness. Not through sound alone, but through familiarity. “Brightness can be adjusted,” Adrian said. “But only if the room allows it.” My fingers curled slowly into the blanket. I did not smile. “They won’t,” I replied calmly, my gaze on the darkened garden beyond the glass. “This house likes everything visible.”

The whispers and side talks were becoming too much. I could see my brother from the corner of my eye dragging my mom away persuading her to continue the party with him. I rushed into my room and locked the door and lay on the ground. Elektra just kept looking at me from a distance. Alcinder got up from my bed and lay on the ground, Elektra joined us and together we looked at the ceiling. We had drawn the curtains earlier and the room was dark. But the ceiling glowed with the fake constellation of the planets and stars. It was calming.

I felt rushed of coldness running through me, it made me reach for Walter as he wrapped me in his arm, rubbing my shoulder and giving me the warmth that I needed. "I need to ask my elders, this is way beyond my knowledge." She got up and reached above her kitchen cabinets, and retrieved some candles, then she closes all the shades and curtains making the room dimmer for her needs. Walter and I sat in silence in front of her as she does her thing, minutes went by as she communicates with her elders then the candles unexpectedly are blown out by a gust of wind, darkness surrounds us immediately. Walter grabbed my hand immediately, assuring me that I was safe, that he was next to me.

I looked at him as he opened it. Of course, his mom would find it quite weird if she discovered that we hadn't been sharing the same bedroom. "You can start unpacking. I've got a conference call to deal with." Justin left as I stepped into the dark-themed, aesthetically designed bedroom. The walls had a stunning midnight decor and there was a luxurious tufted bed, an elegant chandelier, vintage furniture, a gallery with a TV wall panel and soft golden lighting. This was definitely Justin Martínez's sanctuary.
