I barked, answering the call with a grit that could cut glass. “Gab… Gabriel…” Linda’s voice quivered, fragile as a moth’s wing, barely above a whisper. “What’s wrong?” I asked, sitting upright. “Someone… someone broke into my house,” she cried. “What? Were you harmed?” I asked, my concern spiking. Kiera shot me a curious glance, her gaze dimming. “I… I…” Linda stuttered, but before she could finish, the call dropped. “F*ck!” I grunted, slamming my hand against the steering wheel.

I ask the baby silent. I reach for my bag to grab my house key, but when I'm about to unlock it, I realize the door is already open. My heart starts to beat in my chest, and my hands get clammy. I slowly push the door open to find my worst shock: My apartment has been broken into. The chairs have been moved, and the table is upside down. Everything is messy. Who was it? A bugler? Mikael? Or Mario's people? I don't care. I have to leave now.

I will be right there! Marissa, Marissa, can you hear me?” I nod as I take in the devastation. My grip loosens on the phone as it falls from my hand.

"Is everything alright?" "Sofia, something is wrong at our apartment," She bellowed and I can sense her fear. "Wrong? What do you mean?" I demanded. "I don't know," She replied and I could hear weird sounds. "Someone broke into our apartment and everything...everything is a mess here!" "Mess?" I bellowed. "Yes! Everything's broken. Scattered all around. Our rooms are a mess!" She cried. "Oh, Jesus!" It took me a few seconds to gather myself and even when I did I had no idea how to react. Why the hell would anyone break into our apartment?

I turned on the light and my house was turned upside down. Denise gasped in shock when she saw how scattered the house was. Someone broke into my house.

It was 8:30am. "I have to go check on Noel.." I mumbled. I got up from bed and brushed my teeth and headed out of my room. I stopped in my tracks when I noticed Hazel sleeping peacefully on the couch in the living room with a book in her hand. "Did she fall asleep while reading?" I smiled and walked towards her. On my way, I ended up bumping into the marble vase on the table beside her and it shattered on the floor with a loud clank. Surprised by the loud noise, Hazel woke up and stared at me, and then at the floor where the broken pieces laid.
