My shoulders feel stiff, but that’s from holding still too long. I pause at my left arm and roll the sleeve back out of habit. I’ve cleaned and dressed every injury I’ve had since arriving. I would have noticed something new. That certainty is still there when my fingers stop. But it was obvious they could tell what had happened. There were literal drops of blood trailing behind me. I couldn’t even raise my voice or find the strength to glare at them when they stared. I was just so tired. By some miracle, I made it back to my chambers before collapsing onto the couch, groaning loudly from the pain. The silver had done its damage. My shoulder wasn’t just bleeding, it was burning, the wound already turning an angry shade of black around the edges. The creature’s claws had been bad enough, but this… this was worse.

However, he shocked me by saying nothing. I need to get out of here. I round the corner too fast and my foot catches on a broken pot. I yelp as I crash into a glass panel. “Ughhh!” Pain explodes across my shoulder as glass shatters around me. I hit the floor hard, breath knocked out of my lungs. My fingers shake as I press them to my arm. I’m bleeding. "Tabitha!"

When we returned to the main locker room, Maren was waiting. “Brooks,” she said, voice gentle but firm. “Physio room. Now. Your shoulder is getting worse.” Callan gave me a small nod. “Go. I’ll cover for you.” In the physio room, Maren closed the door and turned to me. “Shirt off. Let me see.” I pulled my shirt over my head. Maren’s hands were careful as she examined my shoulder, but her expression grew more concerned. “This isn’t normal inflammation,” she said. “Your range of motion is decreasing, and there’s unusual nerve sensitivity. Brooks… I think something systemic is going on. The ‘recovery protocol’ you’ve been on, I don’t believe it’s just vitamins.”

I whispered, my grip tightening on his coat. Then I saw it. His shoulder was bleeding. Not deep, but enough to soak through the fabric of his shirt, a dark stain spreading across the cot ton like a shadow, stark against the paleness of his skin.

Trying not to make eye contact with anyone I was slowly making my way through the halls towards the washroom. Focussed on not losing my balance I didn't realise I was going to crash with someone. A broad chest came into my few but it was too late. I had already crashed into it. My vision got dizzy for a second but it soon returned to normal. My exhausted body was on brink of shutting down but I just couldn't let it. My eyes landed on the eyes of the person who held my shoulders to steady me. Making me cry in pain from inside. The dislocated shoulder hurts like hell.

If she succeeds in rupturing this important vein then I will be dead, with no time to heal myself. Swiftly, I kick her again on the knee, deflecting her strike. The force is so strong, and the impact so devastating to her because I can hear the cracking sound as some bones break. Her blade misses my neck but cuts through my shoulder and tears some artery. Blood squirts out, splashing into her eyes. I let out a battle cry as pain engulfs me.
