I felt like I was in a zombie state and I just followed them to the car. Her dress fitting her every curve and her curled hair swishing back and forth. Why was this happening now? And a human? Why a human?! My bear growled in the back of my mind. I knew he wanted our mate and it didn't matter if she was human or not.

Half-blood herself, though she didn't use that word. She was traveling through our territory with her family, and Kaya saw her, and that was it. He was lost."

I bared my neck for them, and Koda nodded, using his head to guide me to sit next to dad. We sat that way for a few minutes and ran back to the house. When we got there, I shifted back and found that I still had my clothes on! Sweet! I don’t have to worry about trying to put clothes on afterward. Within seconds, m dad hugged me, “Honey, your bear is beautiful. She is also sacred. I’m sure I know why you have her, just know that we are all behind you.” I smiled, “Thanks dad. That really means a lot.”

One member of the bear clan steps, skinny and ruddy faced, steps forward. “Could the wolf girl read the poem again?” Barrett hands the carving back to me with a commanding grunt. I obey, reading the inscription slowly, clearly, and loudly. “Yeah, I know some of those lines,” the bear says. “Where from?” Barrett asks. “My mom used to sing a song like that,” he tells us. “But it wasn’t about a blood feud or a curse or anything like that. It was longer, and kind of different.”
