The doll approached the bed on unsteady legs, its small feet pattering against the wooden floor. Up close, its lifeless face unnerved her, painted lips frozen in a perpetual smile. But those eyes burned with something hungry, something not of this world. A dark spirit, Lila thought wildly, her mind racing to the fantasy tales she loved. The doll climbed onto the bed, its tiny hands reaching out. They were cold, smooth porcelain against her warm skin as it crawled toward her. Lila recoiled, pulling the sheet up like a shield.

I grinned. Yes, I was in a peculiarly good mood today. Dad had promised to buy the book I was always bugging him about. It was a book by my favourite writer, Kelly Brown. Her female characters were always beautiful, perfect figures and extremely wealthy while fulfilling their dreams. It had been out for several months and I never liked to miss any of her new release. But things had been tough at home for a while. Dad lost his job and it took a while to find something else.

Hearing the word dream, the little girl looked over to the adults with bright expression. “Oh I dream of a dragon last night! A green dragon!” Jai smiled at her enthusiasm. “Did you now? Wow, that’s amazing. Can you tell me about it?” Alyssa smiled widely and nodded her head profusely. Helen chuckled. “It seems that Brother Jai can be your listener for your dreams, Alyssa. Why don’t you tell him all your dreams in his visit these two days?”

From thinking too much, he fell asleep and dreamed how everything began. Flashback It was an afternoon in the garden of one of the most powerful households at that time. A girl was beneath the huge tree while reading a book, humming her favorite song and enjoying the cooling breeze that makes the tree leaves dance. The girl possesses a beauty that others want to have. Hair shiny as the sun, light blue eyes the same as the sky, and skin as smooth as the clouds. Overall, this girl was a perfect woman as she is humble and kind to people despite the status differences.

His snout is right up her neck, and he sighs contentedly. He has a point, but I wonder. If so, hot damn, in more ways than one. Everything I have ever wanted is right in front of me. That was my last thought as I drifted to sleep next to her. Not long after I've fallen asleep, I start having strange dreams that I can’t make sense of because all I see and hear are the screams of a woman with long brown hair in a fetal position on the floor, crying and clutching her chest in agony. It’s breaking my heart to see her like that, and all I want is to scoop her up in my arms and comfort her.
