Accidentally Claimed
All I knew was that whoever had chased her, whoever had hurt her, would never touch her again.
She shifted slightly, wincing in pain. I swallowed hard, forcing control back into my shaking hands. Buck was right beneath the surface, pacing, protective, and demanding. I’d never felt this kind of pull before, the instinct to shield, to claim, and to destroy anything that dared breathe near her.
“Easy,” I murmured, more to myself than her, as I lifted her properly in my arms. “You’re safe now.”
But even as I said it, I wasn’t sure it was true. Behind me, I could feel Jason’s stare burning into my back sharp, assessing, and untrusting.
