My heart leapt into my throat as I screamed his name, my voice lost in the chaos. But Xander didn’t need the warning. His wolf turned sharply, his ice-blue eyes locking onto the hunter as he lunged. The man managed to fire, the dart grazing Xander's flank, but it wasn’t enough to stop him. With a guttural snarl, Xander brought the man down, his jaws closing around the hunter's shoulder and rendering him unconscious.

My body is mine. I inhale. On the exhale, I move. I snap forward and headbutt him so hard the back of his skull explodes outward. His body flies back, crashing into the two behind him. He’ll regenerate—fast. Before they can recover, I grab the linens and run. Getting them away from the villagers comes first. I sprint toward the boulders beyond the outskirts, lungs burning. I duck behind one large enough to shield me and suck in air. I’ve never fought a hunter before. Let alone three.

His eyes glow white as snowfall. Hunter (to himself): “Mountains remember. And I have not forgotten the scent of exiles.” He kneels beside a pawprint in ash. Hunter (smiling): “She walks among them. The half-blood Queen. And the bastard prince follows.” He releases a signal flare. Three more flares answer across the valley. Hunter (low growl): “Time to cleanse the peaks.” The Mountain Stirs A deep chamber beneath the village. Xavier follows a dream—his feet bare, pulled by a force older than thought. The stone is warm beneath him.

"Why have you come to my territory uninvited?" Hunter leaned back, a smirk tugging at his lips. "How many times must I explain myself?" he said, feigning boredom. Xander’s patience wore thin, but he took a deep breath. "Are you here to kill and declare war?" Hunter crossed one leg over the other, his demeanor relaxed but menacing. "That was the plan," he admitted, his voice low. "But then I saw your daughter. Plans change." Xander’s expression darkened, his sharp gaze cutting through the room. "I know what you want," he said coldly. "You intend to reject my daughter. Do it quickly. I don’t want her bonded to you."

She thought she was all high and mighty because she was a Bittermane. He spat, wiping the name from his mouth. Her mother tarnished that name for good by being a whore and running off with that hunter. He shook his head. A flash of brown moving through the crowd caught his attention. It was the new hunter in town, Garin. He was pushing through the people, making a beeline for Willow's cart. "Garin!" Lyall called, Garin was only a few feet from him. His head pivoted and he saw recognition pass through the hunter's eyes. Garin paused for a minute before walking towards Lyall, cautiously.

Hello and Happy Summer to Everyone!! The sequel to "The Hunt" is called "The Dragon's Treasure" and it is being posted one chapter at a time on the web app here on Good Novel! (The first chapter will post this afternoon - June 14, 2022) You won't be able to find the book on the mobile version for a few months yet (it has to go through approval and I don't want to make it pay to read quite yet as I work through the story development and editing phases).

Hunter paused, if only for a brief second before he continued, "I think I love her." * * * I looked down at my hands on my lap. What have I done? I should not have eavesdropped. Now it would haunt me for the rest of the day or maybe for even longer. The annoying thing about eavesdropping on the phone call was that I had no idea what the other person was saying so I had to fill the blanks myself. From what I had heard, there were two things for sure: Firstly, Tyler was Villain X. There was no denying it. I had heard Hunter beg him not to hurt me before. Why on earth would Hunter beg him to take my name out of his hit list if not because Tyler was the person behind all of the pranks?

Hunter was with us. In Xander's little mind, the solution had been perfectly logical. If he couldn't bring Mommy and Daddy home... Then he would bring Hunter. He reached for the image. Opened a portal. Hunter fell into it. Another portal appeared above the Sanctuary. Hunter continued falling. Straight toward the throne room. I stared at my son. "...You rescued Hunter." Xander giggled. As though this had all been a wonderful game. Hunter let out a long sigh from the infirmary bed.

" Xander said as the necklace suddenly shone. Xander immediately headed East, while Logan and Tristan followed by taking the West route. *** Alice looked at the creature in front of her, when she just got out of the car. Alice did go a little to the east, rather she walked towards the flowers that caught her attention. But somehow, something more interesting than the flower brought him here. A large butterfly with almost the same carved wing as the one in Xander's house. But the butterfly wings are like overgrown by plants that live on them.
