Then, suddenly, the ground trembled.
Jeremy stumbled sideways, letting out a startled yelp. The horses neighed wildly behind us.
“Wh–What’s happening?!” he barked, fighting for balance.
I stood still, unmoved. Of course, they knew we were here.
The shaking grew worse. Loose rocks slid down from nearby ridges. A deep hum echoed from within the mountain, like the growl of something ancient awakening.
And then just as quickly as it started, it stopped.
