Layla's POV: As we get the sound of music fills the air and as the festival comes into view Lorie gets increasingly more excited. As we head towards the booths and people that are scattered around the streets Lorie tugs on my arm. "What is that?" Lorie asks, pointing to some cotton candy hanging in a booth as I let go of Nicolae and crouch down in front of her. "That is cotton candy." I reply. "Would you like to try it?" I ask

“Boss, just admit it, your blood sugar is low. Whaddaya mean, you’re dizzy cuz you were sleeping? Tch, I know these things, okay?” The woman gladly accepted Jojo’s kindness, silently taking the candy from her hand and removing the wrapping. When she put it into her mouth, the fragrance of rose drifted around her mouth. Roses were a popular export here, so everyone knew about rose cookies and Jojo even bought rose-flavored candies.

Dean felt solid, a rock for me to hold on to, and I didn't want to let him go for anything. Jenny finally spoke up. "This has been some week, hasn't it?" Everyone muttered an agreement. "This is basically the best vacation I've ever had. To meeting new friends," she said, raising her beer in the air. It was the same toast we had shared in the bar. That seemed like a lifetime ago, and so much seemed to have changed since then. Still, I raised my beer in the air and clinked with Dean. Jenny drank the rest of her beer in one swig. "I'll definitely be sorry to see you all go, but summer flings can't last past summer, can they?"

"Yes, it's time for me to kiss you." Pulling away... Merrigold took four steps away from him. "...not in public...what if someone...especially your father—" "Everyone knows exactly how we made our children, them seeing us kiss is merely close to nothing." Merrigold sighed looking around at the acres of land with huge stems of sugar cane surrounding them. The little gravel road in between, leading into the Cunningham Plantation. "I do not want you to leave..." "Why?" Austin teased.

His thumb pressed firmly against my lips, and he rubbed them forcefully. "From today on, this is all you get for all three meals." As he spoke, he pulled out a lollipop from the storage compartment. It was strawberry-flavored. It was pink, and it looked sweet. However, the top of the lollipop was shaped like a collar. I stared at it. My brain completely shut down. It was strawberry-flavored and pink, but the top molded into a collar shape and was even attached to a short candy chain. Was that thing even meant for humans to eat?

"Want a piece of candy? Sugar might help." Claire nodded, the motion weary. Casper pulled out a small, crinkly candy wrapped in iridescent, rainbow-colored cellophane. He carefully unwrapped it to reveal a translucent, gem-like lozenge inside. Claire stared at it, her breath catching for a different reason. A wave of pure nostalgia, sweet and sharp, cut through the numbness. That specific candy… with that exact, garishly shiny wrapper… It was wildly popular at her high school. She'd loved them but could rarely have them because of her terrible sweet tooth and constant warnings from the dentist.

And somehow, it sounded both like a promise and a warning. “Then prove it.” Bobby’s voice cut in, snapping both our heads in his direction. I blinked, heat crawling up my neck. “I'm sorry, prove what?” “How well you both remembered with.. an actual kiss.” “Uh… yeah, about that, fireworks and ferris wheels are kinda hard to recreate in, you know… a hall. Unless you’ve got a spare carnival stuffed in the coat closet, we’re not exactly working with the same ambiance here.” I shot Knox a pleading glance, silently begging for backup. He, of course, looked like he was two seconds away from making this much worse.

Instead of bothering myself with tons of unanswerable questions to Zev, I just followed his lead, his hand on my waist serving as my guide. We sat at a table near the stage. The serene ambience of the place was a change for me. I was used to bass-boosted music and sweaty bodies piled on the dance floor. But tonight, there was a calming jazz music on the background accompanied by the loud chatter of people who had not-that-hard drinks served on the table. Tonight was really different. “Let me get us a drink,” Zev said. “Anything you like in particular?” Before I could reply, a lady appeared out of nowhere, holding a tray of drinks and what seemed to be nachos and cheese.

"Ohhh. Do you know how other languages call it?" " Yes. In England, is called candy floss. While in Australia and Finland, is called fairy floss. In the Netherlands, is called suikerspin which means 'suger spider.' " "Wow! You are really a fan of cotton candy." He laughed amused at her knowledge of cotton candy. She grinned. "It's my favorite." They both went to the vendor and bought two. They kept on walking side by side. Sabrina was really busy in eating her cotton candy that she didn't even notice Josh looking at her and chuckling. She realised it when she was done with it. " Why are you looking at me like that?"

I apologize for his question, because I don't want to tell them what happened to Zack and me. I would have stood up to order something to eat but I was surprised because the students approached where I was and they presented the red Roses one by one. I was surprised to accept them and I turned my gaze to my friends who are now all smiling. Zack's friends who haven't been here lately.
