"Don't you want to light it? Here." Madelyn twisted her body, "Just let me go." "Make another move, and I'll take it out on you," he playfully nibbled her earlobe. Her heart raced, and she felt unsure how to react. She stayed still, not daring to make any sudden movements. With their combined effort, Zach snapped open the metal lighter, igniting the wick inside. Their gazes locked onto the flames as they watched the sky lantern inflate from the heat, gradually ascending into the sky once it was buoyant enough.

He then shook the box containing a lighter and asked, "Do you want this, or should I give it to someone else?" Trevor's two primary interests in life were drinking and collecting lighters. Although he was not much of a smoker, he had an extensive collection of lighters in various shapes and sizes. He even had some of them custom-made at a high cost. So, when he heard that Leighton had a lighter for him, he eagerly reached out to accept it.

With a sharp clink, he flicked the flame on. He held it to the end of his cigarette and took a deep drag until the tip glowed bright orange. Then he blew a thick cloud of smoke out through the open window. "Let him watch," Zane muttered, his rough voice scraping over my skin. "Are you insane?" I hissed, sitting up straight. "If he catches us, he won't just throw you out. He will destroy me. He’ll lock me in that house until—"

I walked toward a table at the far end of the room, and soon with the metallic clink of a Zippo lighter the mesmerizing glow of a flame flickers in the darkness I was wallowing in.

I chose the smaller box, flipped the lid, and froze. A lighter. Sleek, silver, clean design. New model. But what shook me was the engraving—R & N. I couldn’t stop the smile that tugged at my lips. But then again, it burned in a strange way too. I kept pressing her about the lighter, and she looked ready to strangle me for it. Then a knock saved us both. An attendant bowed in the doorway.

Before I could react, Blaze had taken over. “Nobody touches what’s ours, Lightning,” he said again, voice dark. “Yes, but you called her your mate. Your fucking mate!” He went silent. “Don’t you hide from me now,” I growled, running a hand through my hair. “I want answers. What the hell is wrong with you?” “I don’t know,” he said quietly. “I just feel like I should protect her.” “Protect her?” I laughed bitterly. “You’ve never given a damn about anyone who isn’t family, and now you suddenly want to play guardian to a slave? In less than three days?”

With the other, he reached into his pocket and took out the lighter I'd once given him. The one with the rose seal. A flame jumped up. Warm yellow light caught his face. Then he brought it toward the lease. "What are you doing?" I screamed and grabbed for it. Too slow. The flame caught the edge of the paper and climbed fast. The pages curled and blackened, crumbled to ash, and drifted down into the ashtray.

He was always doing things that could make you mad and it was annoying and I outrightly wanted to call him stupid for doing what he just did but wince he always had a reason for the stupid things he did, I decided to ask why he did it instead. "The fire in that lighter contains sulphuric content and brimstone, which could make fire burn very violently. Violently enough to burn this entire place since there's nothing stopping that fire now, it's going to burn badly. You always need a weapon with you wherever you go you know?" I couldn't see his face but I could tell he was smiling coyly as always when he was making comments like this.

All the lights were off. 'I don't find anything amiss.' Bash said. Blaze walked in through the door, scraped his hand against the wall to switch on the lights even though he could see perfectly well in the darkness. Before he could switch on the lights though, the room lit up. Blaze blinked when he noticed the decorations in the living room. Lots of black balloons were hung along the staircase. "Surprise!" Lilith exclaimed as she jumped in front of him, holding a bouquet of flowers. Her voice shot through the air, breaking the eerie silence that had Blaze's heart racing alarmingly.
