An Enemy Called Mate
As expected, one of Jake's burly men began inspecting the bag's contents, while another whisked away the chessboard.
The scene reminded me of the good old days, and I couldn't help but smile.
I took the chair opposite Jake, who toyed with a cigarette, his eyes analyzing my expression.
His men continued to inspect the bag, their movements methodical.
The silence in the room was broken when Jake asked, “Have you heard about Nikolas's Crystal Moon that was stolen?”
His interest in the Crystal Moon puzzled me.
Why would he care?
I assumed my adoptive father had long sold it, but I feigned innocence, replying quietly, “No, I haven't heard about it.”
