Third Person POV Nancy sauntered into the marketing office, the purchase order in her hand and that familiar sway in her hips she knew Noah liked. Jenny watched attentively as Nancy began to explain in detail who the woman in the painting was, unconsciously answering all of Jenny's unspoken questions. "Karla is the woman holding the baby—the one you're asking about. She was my dearest friend," Nancy said, her tone turning somber. "Her life was tragically cut short." She looked down at her hands resting in her lap. "She was taken from us far too soon." Respectfully, Jenny nodded and chose to remain silent, not wanting to interrupt Nancy's recollection.

“Yes, that's true. It won't just be me, though. Carter and our other team members will be keeping an eye on it as well.” Nancy was dressed to impress. She had on a white blouse, with lace going down the arms. Her blonde hair was looped with giant curls and it fell elegantly on top of her shoulders. Everything about her looked expensive, from her makeup all the way to the gigantic diamond ring on her left hand. Her outfit alone was probably worth more than the total amount that I had in my savings account. “Henry and I are excited to work with y'all,” she said. “Carter has told us a lot about you. He makes it sound like you're the bees knees.”

Nancy covered up all her messes and always blamed me, manipulating others to see me as the problem. The dark thoughts of my childhood screamed in my mind—endless cries, and no one ever came to help. Over time, even the beatings didn’t faze me. Nancy and Davina made my life hell, even in college. But then the door opened, and suddenly, light poured in. My heart raced as I saw her in a black gown and red heels, with an hourglass figure and beautiful wavy brunette hair.

Instead, she went to a corner of the room where my bookshelf was and started touching the books there. "So you read," she said, stating the obvious. I couldn't resist the urge to roll my eyes. "No, I don't. I'm an illiterate who happens to be a book collector," I replied sarcastically. Carly ignored my comment and touched one book in my collection of series.
