She takes out her large folder and opens it. “Gloria has left you her collection of Jane Austen books.” My mouth falls open and tears instantly fill my eyes. “Oh my God,” I whisper. “Are you serious?” I scramble through my bag for a tissue. “That’s amazing.” I turn to Cam and he’s grinning back at me. “Oh, that’s so special to me. Thank you so much,” I whisper. “When can we pick them up?”

It would have been worth it. But I decided to be smart about it. Instead of causing a scene, I left and waited for her at her apartment. I passed the time flipping through "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen—one of the many romantic classics stacked on her shelf. I had read it before, but tonight, the words barely registered as my mind kept circling back to her, laughing with him like he had not almost ruined her life. My grip tightened around the book, my jaw clenching as seconds stretched into minutes.

So while he stands behind me watching me, which both intimidates and excites me, I take each book out, one by one, pulling them from the bookcase, some wonderful editions of Jane Austen, Dickens, Ovid, Homer, Kundera and then 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' and, finally, Lolita. As I put Lolita on the top pile, I let out a sigh. I feel Paul slowly approach from behind me.

Not really in the mood for TV, I wander over to the massive bookcase and pull out “Emma” by Jane Austen, I've been wanting to read it since I finished “Pride and Prejudice” but we didn’t have it at the Beta’s house, and our school library didn’t stock it either. Feeling a little spark of joy at my small find, I curl up on the sofa to start reading, letting the quiet of the room wrap around me like a comforting blanket.

I walk to one wall eager to see the kind of books they keep. I skim through the names of books and they all classic novels. All of Jane Austen's novels from Pride and Prejudice to The Watsons, take up one shelf. Above that shelf are Oscar Wilde novels.

They were just sports, when he wanted to settle down he'd be aiming a damn sight higher than the young women who cleaned out his fireplace on a morning. Now Athena Thornfield, a woman of the highest recommendation and reputation, would be a new effort. Those green eyes had sized him up and her slender figure, curvy bust and smooth wide pink lips would surely offer many nights of pleasure.

The walls being light colored didn’t surprise me more than the mountains upon mountains of books he has sitting on bookshelves surrounding the room. I walk around the room running my hands over all the different titles and authors. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, H.G Wells, and so much more. Wuthering Heights, a first edition version sat in a case in between the shelves by a set of double doors to what looks like a balcony. It stuck out to me more than any of the other titles because it surprises me more than anything that he would read a book such as that. I try to picture in my head him sitting in a chair with glasses, all relaxed and snuggled up reading a classical romance novel

Elaine said, appreciating the concern. Elaine and I chatted into the night, I noticed her eyes light up as she talked about her favorite books. "Have you read any of Jane Austen's novels?" she asked me excitedly. "Yes! Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorites," I replied, smiling at her enthusiasm. "Oh my gosh, I love that one too! Mr. Darcy is just so swoon-worthy," Elaine gushed, her cheeks turning pink. I laughed at her reaction. "I have to admit, I may have a bit of a crush on him myself."
