Twenty years ago, I took down seventeen traffickers with my bare hands. Thirty-eight bodies total."

“Then stop wasting my time and say it.” The man let the silence drag, enjoying the tension. “Adrian Carter.” Daniel didn’t react at first. Just let the name settle between them, cold and unwelcome. “Adrian Carter,” he repeated, his voice devoid of emotion. “The exiled Carter?” He made sure he put an emphasis on the word ‘exiled’. The man nodded. “He landed in Chicago a few hours ago. Kept it real low and quiet. There was no media coverage, no grand entrances. We checked everything, he hasn’t been linked to the press leaks.”
