Cain tenses every time his father says anything to him or me, then they glare at each other like they're having some sort of staring contest or silent argument. Halfway through dinner, Cain's father excuses himself and comes back with a couple who exude authority but seem very friendly with it. She was aggressively arranging her side of the room, slamming drawers with more force than necessary. Amber finished organizing her side of the desk, zipped her bag with a vicious tug, and let out a loud, frustrated sigh. “My greatest fear has come true,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “Cassie, or whatever the hell her name is, doesn’t see Mason as just a friend. She is here to steal my man from me.” Her voice cracked slightly. “And his parents already like her. They probably fucking adore her.”

Somehow it always had an effective soothing me, of making me smile. The sun was high, the air cold with the scent of pine and the lingering burn of the funeral the day before. Everyone around was in pain despite trying to take care of their duties. The atmosphere in the compound was quieter today. Still heavy, but not suffocating. At least they were doing their best to manage standing. I knew that it was hard. I understood how difficult it was to lose someone as close as Caleb. But they still did their best to manage things. Laryssa tugged me into the dining room and sat me down at the opposite side of the table from the trio, passing me a pastry as she poured us both coffee. “You must be Cassie,” the woman I hadn't met before said in a voice so sweet it gave me a toothache. “I'm Amber, daughter of Alpha Thomas.”

Kendra screamed, and she clearly would have gone after Alice if she hadn't been so busy trying to stop Casey from getting to Amber "Don't get involved in this!" “She’s just telling the truth!” Casey exploded “I should have known what I was getting myself into when I let Amber seduce me! How could a woman who constantly insinuates herself into her own sister's boyfriend be anything more than a slut?” he pulled his own hair as if he wanted to rip it out. “Stop it, Casey!” Amber shouted, between whimpers “When I explain what really happened, you will regret saying something so cruel to me!”

I glanced at Williams, who remained silent, as if in pain. "It's nothing, Dean. A friend of mine came to visit, and I was happy about it all." Dean looked at Henry, who smiled and extended his hand for a shake. "Hi, my name is Henry, and I'm from the Lycan pack. I used to be a beta to Williams here, but I guess my rights have been taken away." I observed how Dean shook hands with Henry, then turned his attention back to me. "You need to rest, Sierra. You know I don't like seeing you this way."

It just pained me that he couldn’t see it. “The two of us know that she loves Elijah no matter what he does.” I said, changing the subject as I knew that it was a sensitive topic to him, and he sighed. “What did you do about the cameras and security team?” “It doesn’t seem like there was a problem that went on, but we are still investigating what happened.” He said, explaining the situation. The fact that we found the whole security team out conscious was not something that we found or considered as normal; however, the fact that there was literally nothing to show that there was even an ambush on the pack didn’t make things any easier for us to trace anything.

"Yeah no she is serious because I feel the same, I'm a pretty good hacker too, Casey and I usually competes to see who is better. I'd like to be apart of this too" Masey speaks up as she is munching away on some chips she pulled out somewhere.
