Jacob and Nathan took Cassie a side and gave her more refreshment. "Were you bit by anything?" Jacob asked her. "No not that I know of," Cassie told him. "Jacob started checking her legs and arms the he chucked around her neck. But he found nothing. "Your riding the rest of the way," Jacob said. "But I'm fine now," Cassie protested. "If Jacob says you're riding your riding. He is our field medic." Nathan said. "You mean like a doctor?" Cassie asked. "Yes he was training to be a doctor before he got turned. When we are not traveling he is always getting more training." Nathan said.

She was aggressively arranging her side of the room, slamming drawers with more force than necessary. Amber finished organizing her side of the desk, zipped her bag with a vicious tug, and let out a loud, frustrated sigh. “My greatest fear has come true,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “Cassie, or whatever the hell her name is, doesn’t see Mason as just a friend. She is here to steal my man from me.” Her voice cracked slightly. “And his parents already like her. They probably fucking adore her.”

I spent the rest of my time there looking at paperwork, and when I was done with that, I went to check if we had missed anything from the winery guy's file, maybe find something that could help us locate him faster, but it was the same nothing as change. I dug into Casey Michael’s family tree, which was a rabbit hole and a nice one, too. I discovered he came from a long line of Gammas, and if the Bluemoon pack hadn't fallen, he would've replaced his father as the new generation. It's unfortunate that something like that happens and changes the kid's fate. Somehow it always had an effective soothing me, of making me smile. The sun was high, the air cold with the scent of pine and the lingering burn of the funeral the day before. Everyone around was in pain despite trying to take care of their duties. The atmosphere in the compound was quieter today. Still heavy, but not suffocating. At least they were doing their best to manage standing. I knew that it was hard. I understood how difficult it was to lose someone as close as Caleb. But they still did their best to manage things. I walked with Damon toward the training field when I saw them.

Laryssa beamed, brushing a dyed blonde hair from her face. “Good morning Laryssa,” I responded cautiously, not trusting my step mother in the least. “Yes, Vasilios and I had a late night so I slept in.” I added the last part for the trio in the dining room who were most likely eavesdropping. Laryssa tugged me into the dining room and sat me down at the opposite side of the table from the trio, passing me a pastry as she poured us both coffee. “You must be Cassie,” the woman I hadn't met before said in a voice so sweet it gave me a toothache. “I'm Amber, daughter of Alpha Thomas.”

I glanced at Williams, who remained silent, as if in pain. "It's nothing, Dean. A friend of mine came to visit, and I was happy about it all." Dean looked at Henry, who smiled and extended his hand for a shake. "Hi, my name is Henry, and I'm from the Lycan pack. I used to be a beta to Williams here, but I guess my rights have been taken away." I observed how Dean shook hands with Henry, then turned his attention back to me. "You need to rest, Sierra. It was our pack’s signature, and I couldn’t help but frown at the sight of it. Her eyes were fixed on the ground as she avoided mine, and extending my hand, I took the necklace. “I wouldn’t have believed it if not for the necklace, I’m sorry,” she whispered, handing it to me. I turned the necklace around and frowned.
