I turned to go there when a voice stopped me. "Sir. Would you like us to sweep the area or follow discreetly?" I turned. The guy asking looked like he could crush brick with his jaw alone. "Just... don’t hover. Make it less weird." He nodded and motioned to the others. They fell back but kept formation. Silent shadows. Trying to look less confused than I was, I walked over to the main desk. A librarian stood there—early thirties maybe, sharp glasses, smart eyes. Her name tag said Cassandra.

The long, quiet hallway was lit by warm lights, casting uneven shadows on the walls. Caspian stopped in front of room 696. He took a deep breath, letting his chest rise and fall before finally swiping the key card into the slot. The door unlocked with a barely audible click. A young woman stood in the center of the room, dressed in a brightly colored cheerleader uniform. Her smile was sweet, dimples appearing on her face. With graceful steps, she approached Caspian, silently closing the door behind him. “Welcome,” she whispered. “For tonight, you can call me Cassandra.”

"We have the Key and the Prophecy. We are done here. Get us out, Xander." Xander turned and sprinted back toward the rippling red-black portal, covering Evangeline and Emma as they ran. Cassius and Selene followed closely, the last one out of the archive. The Librarians shrieked, their withered hands reaching for the knowledge being stolen from their charge.

Carrying her suitcase, she made her way downstairs. Lucian was lounging with one leg crossed over the other, engrossed in the television. He glanced up. "Hey! Where are you going?" Cassandra gave him a nonchalant glance, disregarding his presence and headed straight for the door. Upon realizing that something was amiss, Lucian hastily stepped forward, grabbing hold of her suitcase. With a stern brow and cold gaze, he retorted, "Are you deaf? Didn't you hear me speaking to you? Have you cleaned the room? Have you cooked? Where on earth are you planning to go this early in the morning?"

Cassandra knows loving him is wrong. He’s older. Forbidden. Her mother’s husband. She was hired to take care of him. She never expected to crave him. George’s touch ruins her innocence, his kiss burns through her rules— and right when Cassandra finally gives in, a single threat from her mother returns to tear everything apart.

We all watched her kick out in disgust at one bleeding Elder. “Get up! You’ll be fine! Get up now!” she hissed “Find Cassandra! Find her right now! GUARDS! Someone with a fucking brain!” Then, just as my amazing, flaming cannonball of chaos had described, in extreme detail on the floor of my underground cathedral, Cass appeared on the far, sea-facing side of the cliff top, alongside a deafening rumble and flash of lightning across the sky.

As the elevator doors closed, I leaned against the wall, a strange emptiness hollowing out my chest. (Florian's POV) I was scrolling through my pack tablet when I sensed Cassandra's gaze boring into me. She'd been standing by the door for too long, perfectly still in that predatory way of hers. "Are you going to stare all evening?" I asked without looking up, irritation coloring my voice. Cassandra sauntered over to the sofa, settling herself on the armrest with feline grace. "I haven't seen enough," she replied with a smirk. "So that was her? The famous Audrey Winter?"

There was an extra step, or a twerk, as she moved around. "Good afternoon, dear housewife," I called out theatrically, gauging her reaction. "Good day, stud," Cass said with a big smile, looking up and giving me a wink. She didn't even correct me calling her a wife. Just being her happy old Cassandra. "How was your day?" Cass asked. "Oh, it was mighty productive. I ran a lot of books, and my people seemed to know their business. Though, I could swear something was awry with one of the offices. This damn ruckus kept interrupting my workflow, damndest!"

The first thing that Lila did when she recovered from her fainting spell was to focus on her surroundings. They looked familiar. Yet, her still muddled mind couldn’t quite place them. It took several minutes of study before she realized that she was back in the wing of the vampire castle where she and Jasper had spent so many months. The room was closer to the lab than the one she’d occupied before her escape and much smaller. She’d used it to nap in a few times when she wanted a brief break from the lab but didn’t want to be too far from Jasper in case he needed her.
