I wouldn't let that happen now. My whole body morphed into my vampire self. My eyes turned into a bright glowing red colour. My canines sharpened and my nails grew longer. I whipped my head towards Maya one last time to make sure she was safe before bolting down with the sole purpose to attack that damn creature. The wind rushed through me, my feet dug on the dirt as I was skillfully making my way through the thick trees. His pestering odour grew stronger and stronger meaning I was getting closer.

His blood-stained frame left a hideous imprint on my window and left a crimson trail on my shirt as our bodies collided in his reckless descent. I whipped my head around, locking eyes with him as he let out a guttural groan and shattered the arrows embedded in his flesh with a swift crack. My sharp eye immediately identified the arrows as the very same ones my parents used for hunting in our pack, expertly crafted to target vampires with their deadly poisoned tips. Our pack witch had concocted a potent potion that not only paralyzed vampires, but could prove fatal if left untreated beyond a day.

“How old are you?” “Twenty-five.” “You’ll be dead before you figure out how to do what’s good for you.” “That’s probably true,” I agree ruefully. “Either from old age or murder.” “My money is on murder.” I laugh and then Eliza does too. “There’s a neat antique store in Thorne Hill,” I tell her. “The owner is scared of vampires and closes right at sunset.” “Closing at sunset is too late to avoid vampires.” “I know. There are only two vampires in Thorne Hill right now.”

When the movements inside the castle begins to increase, I look at Drake. “How long until sunset?” I ask him. “Twenty minutes.” I stand and Riley comes to stand beside me. “Is it time?” Riley asks. “Nearly,” I say seeing ten auras race out of the castle. I blast them, hearing their screeches as they turn to dust. “If they didn’t know before, they do now,” Alpha Leonardo says behind us. We hear the ear-piercing screech of a vampire calling to his clan inside the castle, preparing for battle.

Kaelen's POV The attack came without warning. One moment the hunting party rode through familiar territory and the next the forest exploded with movement. Figures materialized from shadows that should not have held them. Vampires. Dozens of them wearing the black and silver of Nocturna's elite forces. Nightblades. "Ambush!" Beta Commander Marcus roared as he shifted mid leap. His wolf form crashed into the nearest vampire and they went down in a tangle of fur and fangs.

If there is something I do not want, it is to be placed in the darkness. "Someone better tell me what is happening." I shift my gaze from each person face. Crescent is the first to talk. "He is back. His name is Doomsblood, the most barbaric Vampire the world has ever encountered. He can see templates of the future, which makes him the hardest vampire to capture. Luna captured him but before then he sired Marcellus and Kael. Luna believed it was his way to come back, and now, it looks like it."

what is all of this? The cold night air was thick with the sounds of battle—a cacophony of growls, snarls, and the metallic clang of weapons clashing. Shrieks pierced through the din, high-pitched and unnatural, a sound that could only belong to the twisted creations of Duke Draven's experiments. The moonlight illuminated the battlefield, casting eerie silver shadows on the blood-soaked snow. Vampires darted through the chaos, their movements a blur as they fought against the disgusting figures of the upgraded homunculi.

Three days after identifying Silas Greythorne's handwriting, Sera woke to urgent knocking. Lucien burst in before she could answer, his eyes wild with fear. His voice was tight, almost cracking. "There's been a murder." She was out of bed immediately. "What? Where?" "The Nocturne District. A vampire elder, found dead in his home last night." He handed her his phone. "Look at the positioning." Sera's blood ran cold, and a wave of nausea rose in her throat. The body was arranged on the floor, arms spread, throat slashed. Around him, ritual markings drawn in blood.

The bells of Blackthorn Castle rang thirteen times, their solemn echoes rolling across the vast Night Empire like an ancient warning. The haunting sound drifted through mist-covered forests, over jagged mountains, and across villages where sunlight had been nothing more than a forgotten legend for centuries.
