The enormous windows behind the council members cast pale light across the polished floor. And seated before me like ancient predators waiting patiently for blood were the High Council. Councilor Magnus sat in the center, his silver hair falling over dark robes embroidered with gold symbols. Age had weakened his body slightly, but not his aura. Beside him sat Councilor Selene, elegant and terrifying, her pale eyes sharp enough to cut flesh apart.
