Chapter 89 Celeste POV I made it to the private quarters before my legs gave out. I didn't collapse or fall or do anything dramatic. But the moment I closed the door behind me‚ my body started shaking in a way I couldn't control. My hands‚ my arms‚ my shoulders‚ all of it trembling as if the temperature had dropped thirty degrees. It wasn't fear. I knew what fear felt like and this wasn't it.

I lunged for her, but Liam held me back. ​“Nora, the doors are closing!” ​“She’s one of them, Liam! She’s my daughter too!” ​“I was never meant for the Earth, Sister,” Celeste whispered. “I was the bridge. And the bridge is finished.” ​She pulled the lever. The life-pod hissed and detached, launched into the void by the final breath of the freighter’s engines. ​Through the small window of the pod, I watched the freighter become a streak of fire across the sky. And in the center of that fire, a tiny, violet light flickered once, then went out.
