Aku sudah menjalin cinta dengan suamiku selama 13 belas tahun. Kami melewati masa berseragam sekolah hingga akhirnya mengenakan gaun pengantin. Demi dia, aku sampai berselisih hebat dengan keluargaku sendiri, hanya untuk memberinya sebuah perusahaan yang sudah go public. Namun sekarang, sebuah buku catatan usang jatuh dari laci rahasia dan mendarat di dekat kakiku. Buku itu terbuka dengan sendirinya. Tulisan yang besar di dalamnya, terlihat olehku. [ Aku muak sama Valen. ] Barulah saat itu aku sadar, ternyata kisah asmara yang kukira adalah cinta pada pandangan pertama di antara kami berdua ini, hanyalah khayalanku belaka. Kalau dia begitu membenciku, pastinya dia juga tidak tertarik dengan perusahaan itu, bukan?

Tahun keenam aku bersama Felix Darian. Aku berkata, "Felix, aku mau menikah." Pria itu tersentak, seketika tersadar dari lamunannya, tampak agak canggung ketika berujar, "Silvia, kamu tahu kalau perusahaan sedang dalam tahap penting untuk pendanaan. Untuk sementara ini, aku belum bisa memikirkan tentang hal itu …." "Nggak masalah," balasku. Aku tersenyum acuh tak acuh. Felix salah paham. Aku memang akan menikah, tetapi bukan dengannya.

Picked Leroy Leighton—my childhood nemesis turned fiancé. Because yeah, I'm a grandma's girl to the core. If she said Jace Thorne didn't love me, then I was so done.

"Rena, aku akan selalu mencintaimu!" desah Jeremy tak tertahankan. Tepat saat dia hampir mencapai klimaks, ponselnya tiba-tiba bergetar. Dalam kondisi seperti itu, tentu saja dia mengabaikannya. Di tengah sunyinya malam, suara dari ponsel terdengar sangat jelas, "Jeremy, kamu tahu nggak ... Nadia ...." Jeremy buru-buru memotongnya dengan suara rendah dalam bahasa asing, "Kecilkan suaramu, ini bukan waktu yang tepat." Lawan bicaranya langsung berganti bahasa, tetapi suaranya tetap terdengar keras, "Hasil pemeriksaan rumah sakit sudah keluar. Nadia kena kanker stadium akhir. Hidupnya tinggal sebulan! Dia ingin jadi istrimu. Kamu bisa nggak kabulkan keinginan terakhirnya sebelum dia pergi?" Ekspresi Jeremy langsung berubah drastis. "Apa?! Tunggu aku!" Setelah menutup telepon, dia menoleh ke Rena dan berkata dengan lembut, "Rena, aku ada urusan penting, harus keluar sebentar. Kamu istirahat saja dulu, nanti aku segera balik." Tanpa menunggu jawaban darinya, Jeremy buru-buru pergi untuk bersih-bersih dan mengganti pakaian. Dia meninggalkan rumah tanpa menoleh sedikit pun. Sesaat kemudian, layar ponsel Rena menyala. Ternyata pesan dari Nadia. [ Rena, kamu kalah. Dari dulu aku sudah bilang, Jeremy itu milikku. ] Tepat di bawahnya, ada pesan lain yang dikirim tiga hari lalu. [ Kalau aku kena kanker, menurutmu Jeremy bakal ninggalin kamu buat datang ke aku nggak? Aku yakin dia pasti datang. ] Tatapan Rena perlahan terangkat dari layar ponsel ke arah pintu kamar yang masih terbuka. Jeremy tidak tahu, dia sudah lama belajar bahasa asing itu. Seluruh percakapan tadi, didengar dan dipahaminya dengan jelas. Sejenak kemudian, wajah Rena menyunggingkan senyuman yang begitu pahit dan menyedihkan. "Iya ... aku memang kalah ...."
