I couldn't sleep a wink. The adrenaline rush was long gone, but the buzzing anxiety was still doing laps in my stomach. I slid out of my room and ended up wandering into the huge, silent library on the first floor. It was all dark wood, floor-to-ceiling, jammed with thousands of books the rich Ashfords probably only glanced at. I found a quiet corner and practically sank into a giant, leather armchair, pulling a heavy art book onto my lap. I just needed to look at something that wasn't a spreadsheet or Killian's massive shoulders.

Chapter 14 Lena's POV I'd been visiting the library every day. It had become the one part of my routine I looked forward to without complication — no performance required, no careful navigation of atmosphere or intention. Just shelves and light and the particular silence that exists only in rooms full of books. I had a corner I'd claimed without declaring it — the window seat at the far end, where afternoon light came in at an angle that was perfect for reading and the view outside was just garden and sky, no walls visible from that position if you sat exactly right.

Chapter 14: Forewarning The Tuesday afternoon rush, such as it was, consisted of three people.
