I shoved a few people out of my way as I hurried toward the distant fight. As I turned the corner to where the fight was, I arrived just in time for the enchanted glasses to be knocked off Khalid’s face, the glamor fading away to reveal his true face as one of the vampires from Tulio’s nest punched him as two others held him in place. Well shit. Maybe he should have enchanted something that couldn’t be easily knocked off. I knew in an instant they recognized him as the wanted hunter.

Three men in dark gear stood at the end of the hall, the silver crests of the Hunter Syndicate glinting on their chests. "The Vances are a lineage of slayers," the leader sneered, his voice dripping with condescension. "Since when do hunters play vet for the vermin? Or has the 'Great' Chloe Vance become so pathetic she can’t even tell the difference between a dog and a shifter?". "Shut up," Chloe said, not looking back as she continued to check the fox's leg.

Kushim teased and I chuckled. “It’s your first gift from a suitor and the first thing you could think of was to return it? Sister— common.” He taunted and we all burst into laughter. “Who told you it’s my first gift?” I replied and they both gasped in shock. “Who was the first guy to give you a gift? Is he handsome? What does he do? Is he from the Shadow pack?” Aarav demanded immediately as they moved closer and I paused, pleased with the looks of anticipation on their faces.

The Headmaster cautiously moved to the armored vehicle, loaded his harpoon into the cannon, and aimed it at them. She saw the Headmaster’s subtle movement, but before she could react, the Headmaster aimed it at her and pulled the trigger or so she thought. The moment seemed to stretch, her focus locked on the harpoon, but it moved past her and hit Qillalon in the torso.

Both their hearts skipped a beat. "I died?" Molly asked. "Yes." "Did that thing get me?" "Yes it did." "What is that thing?" Det. Brighton asked. "Why is it after Molly?" "It's called a chasen." "A chasen?" Molly repeated. "The creature that is after you and has taken your life mutliple times. It's called a chasen." "What is it?" "It is a vicious hunter killer that is after you and will stop at nothing to get you," Vera said.
