For most Alphas, this is ideal because their mate can't be used against them. Chosen mates don't have a full connection like a fated mate. There are no tingles when you touch them; you can't feel each other's feelings, and you can't feel if the other is hurt. This makes a chosen mate ideal in the event an enemy tries to get to the Alpha by hurting their mate. That kind of pain is crippling and would make any Alpha an easy target. With a chosen mate, you don't have that, so an enemy can't get to you through your mate.
