Although the howl didn't last long, my energy was drained just to endure the deafening sound. My body almost fell to the ground if my brain didn't give me the command to stay alert. I cast my gaze forward. The bear monster had thick white fur similar to a polar bear, it was about three stories tall. The beast had two pairs of arms and two legs, with a fat, flabby body.

_Aria's POV_ I looked at the calendar on the wall. The date looked back at me and my stomach tightened. The dreaded day would come soon. It was the twenty-fourth of December today and the memory still sat fresh in my throat. I could taste it like old blood. I could see the lights and hear the sirens. I remembered what happened three years ago. I remembered everything. I had been looking for scissors to open the Christmas presents when I noticed the black file lying in the corner of the sofa. It did not belong there. The living room was too neat for loose papers. I frowned and set the wrapping aside.

He scrolled through his explore page lazily then stopped when something caught his eyes. 'A bear made out of roses?' It was a white bear made out of roses. He went onto the account hoping he could actually buy the bear. His screen loaded to a bunch of different rose bears, and rose boxes. 'Woah! So you can buy them! I should get one for my mom'

That's when I noticed she didn't have a book, she was telling him a story as she looked off, like she was watching the story unravel in her mind as she spoke out loud. "Once the bear was caught in a net. He thrashed about this way and that until he was exhausted. Then he fell asleep. While he slept a host of little mice began playing all over his great body. Their tiny feet tickled him and he woke with a start. The mice scampered off, all but one that the bear caught under his paw. "Tweek! Tweek!" the frightened little mouse cried. "Let me go! Let me go! Please let me go! If you do I'll reward you some day! I will!"

I had read the same book so many times I could almost say the words without looking at the pages. Halfway through the story my phone buzzed on the coffee table. I ignored it. My child was watching the pictures closely while I read. When we finished, they leaned against my shoulder. “Mama?” “Yes?” “Do you think bears could really go to space?” “Probably not.” “Why?” “They would need a lot of training.”

We’re spending Christmas here with Grandma and Uncle Elliot.” Her face lit up instantly. “Yeah.” “I’m just going to get a few things for Christmas,” I said. “I’ll be back.” I turned away before she could ask anything else.
