He could not wait to see Carol open her present. Carol opened her present. To her surprise it a Teddy Bear. A brown bear with a black nose. Carol was excited. She hugged the bear. Eddie was happy to see Carol excited. Eddie had saved his money he made from picking up pecans for the neighbor. This was the first time Carol had ever received a toy. She slept with the teddy every night. She took the teddy with her everywhere she went. It was her best Christmas ever. Eddie had proven that he could provide for the family.

A boy and his bear. Gemma quickly returned to herself and tucked it away in the floor. She slid the board back into place. Her hands still shook the entire time, and she watched the spot, almost expecting the boy to move the floorboard and climb out. This was worse than expecting a ghost to be behind her, ready to eat her. Had she seen what she thought she saw? Was that real? Who sleeps with a wild bear cub? Where were they? She didn’t know what to do. Should she tell someone? Or would that get her in more trouble with Aunt Esme and her parents?

” I asked, making sure to remain bigger and more in control than the she-Bear, even though a part of me still wanted to avert my eyes when I looked at her. Things were getting more and more interesting. Or fucked. The Bear wagged her tail, and her ass went up in the air before she darted farther into the trees. I quickly shifted and caught her scent. She smelled like the forest after a storm, crisp and alluring. With a forced shake, I pushed away the building attraction and continued our chase. Elena’s Bear was faster than I’d expected for her first shift. She was agile and strong, which allowed for her to jump over fallen trees and a creek that I would have expected a new wolf to be afraid

At myself, at my bear, at the world for being so cruel. I just want it to end. If it were up to me, I'd let them do what they've come to do, but all my bear wants to do is fight. With a growl, I try to pull him as hard as I can, grabbing and pulling down as I try to force my way up. It's no use. He has become too strong. I sink back inside myself with a sigh as he growls at my brother. “We tried.” Cristian says as he lets his polar bear approach. My filthy bear watches with adrenaline coursing through his veins as Cristian explodes into a roaring white polar bear.

I'm just here to follow this crazy old guy's scavenger hunt. The bear moved forward. Following him. Watching him with those creepy, glowing eyes. Maybe it was simply curious. Or maybe it saw Xavier as a tasty mid-night snack. "You don't want me," he said in a calm voice, though the bear was probably too far away to hear. "I'm all muscle. I'll be all tough and chewy." He wondered if he should just turn and run. But running away meant abandoning his task, and he wasn't willing to do that.

Weaving through a few trees and dropping Xavier's towel at the front door, I ran back around, hearing Theo's growling. I yelped as a set of teeth grabbed my scruff, lifting me easily off the ground. Caught. Dane said proudly. I curled into a ball as Xavier and Theo sat down around us. I giggled. I submit! Oh, terrifying Triad! They chuckled at me as Dane placed me on the ground gently. Xavier nudged me with his large nose, an enormous brown bear with his eyes staring down at me. I nuzzled him with my small nose. He gave a huffed noise of love, licking me. You're a very beautiful little fox.

My closet filled with tons of sweaters and baggy jeans. All of this makes me want to cry again. “You grew up here, didn't ya?” He mutters, as if to himself. “Yeah.” I nod, following his eyes as they take in every single detail of my room. He's staring at my bed now, well not really my bed. He's staring at my stuffies. There are three, Mr. Bean, Cherry, and Loli-girl. Mr. Bean’s a stuffed bear, Cherry's a unicorn, and Loli-girl is a blonde crochet doll. Why am I embarrassed that Jaxon's looking at them? I feel like a greasy, dumb kid again.

“We’re just keeping her safe.” Jenni smirks, clearly delighted to challenge him. “Oh, of course. Just keeping her ‘safe’ with the subtlety of a three-man SWAT team.” Demitri’s lips twitch as if he’s fighting back a grin, and Lucas chuckles. “She might have a point there.” Before Demitri can respond, Jenni’s already diving into the pile of gifts, picking up a ridiculously over-the-top stuffed bear and holding it up. “Look at this! Who even sends a bear this big?”

Jennifer chuckled and retorted mockingly, "CEO? Do you really think she became CEO through her own abilities? Without Jeremiah and me backing her up, she's just a useless loser." Charles looked at Jennifer in disbelief. His eyes were filled with shock and anger. Annoyed by the noise, I told the bodyguards to drag the two of them farther away. I crouched alone by the seaside. The winter wind blowing from the ocean was icy and piercing. Little by little, I scattered Noelle's ashes into the sea. I said softly, "Today is Christmas, Noelle. It's also the day you were born. I'm letting you return to the ocean."

The third room is locked. I stand in front of the locked door for a long moment, hand on the handle, knowing this is important. Why lock a door in your own home unless you're hiding something? I move on before I get caught. The hallway opened into a massive living area, all windows and modern furniture and that enormous Christmas tree I saw when I first woke up. Presents are stacked underneath, wrapped in silver and white. I wonder if any of them are real or if they're just props in the set design of our supposed perfect life.
