The owner, Lydia, looked up from the counter and smiled as soon as she saw us. “There’s my Homecoming girls,” she said. “You’re right on time. Jessa, your dress is ready.” My heart slammed against my ribs. Ready. No more safety net of “we’re still working on it” or “we’ll see how it fits after alterations.” This was it. This was the version I had to face in the mirror. Mariah nudged me forward. “Come on, Cinderella. Let’s see the magic.” I followed Lydia to the back, palms sweating. My dress hung alone on a hook outside the fitting room, protected by a plastic cover like it was something fragile and expensive. Even through the cloudy plastic, I could see the color—deep, rich sapphire blue.

He said pinching my nose and leaving the room with his suit. I looked at the heavy box in my hand and placed it on the bed then untied the ribbon. When I lifted the lid I gasped in shock, there was sitting a baby blue color dress that looked like it came out from some Cinderella’s movie with a pair of crystal heels and a makeup bag. I pulled out the dress from the box and admired it. The bodice of the dress was covered in sparkles and the bottom skirt was made up of chiffon. With bubbling feeling in my belly, I ran towards the washroom to take a quick shower.

My stepsisters stopped fighting and turned their attention to me. “She’s really the laziest maid in this house. She can never get anything done!” Cindy said with a scoff. Mindy fell into the couch nearby, clutching the invitation that she had finally managed to wrest out of her sister’s hand. “Cindy, what are we going to wear to this ball?” Lizzy picked up her teacup, taking a short sip. “Don’t worry sweetie, I’ve already sent word to your stylists. You’ll look your absolute best for this ball.”

I pointed to a onyx backless satin dress that had a cowl design and a high back slit. "Let me give them to you to change," Veronica winked, undressing the mannequin that had the dress on. "Go change my Cinderellas," we swooped into the dressing cabin. "This dress is a killer. I don't think I will select another one," I heard Riri say while I was changing. "You look very beautiful darling," "Thank you, just wait till you see jazz first. I believe she will look gorgeous," I almost rolled my eyes as Riri assumed her words. But she was right, I looked very beautiful in the dress.

Jane explained while catching her breath. She stood in front of him and when Jane met his gaze, she caught Lance staring blankly at her. The air is thick with the mingling scents of lavender, jasmine, and the earthy perfume of freshly cut roses. Finally, my eyes fall upon the dress. It's not just a gown; it's the epitome of a fairytale brought to life. Designed to shimmer and glisten as I move, the fabric twinkles as if woven from strands of moonlight. The bodice is adorned with tiny, intricate crystals that transition into a skirt of cascading lace, as if frozen waterfalls have been captured in textile form. Cathy steps back, seemingly pleased with her artistic endeavor. "Look at you. You're Elsa—stunning, regal, and utterly captivating."

She points to a room directly opposite the counter. I mutter a 'thanks' before heading off in the direction she pointed. Grayson remains leaning on the counter. Once inside the dressing room, I easily slip out of my dress. I try on the first outfit. It's a lovely off shouldered Cinderella styled gown with a lot of buttons at the back. At first I try to do the buttons myself but it doesn't work. Eventually I give up and decide I need help. Apart from the large mirror covering an entire wall in the changing room and a long bench, there isn't any other thing inside here.

Rella chuckled shaking her head. " You look gorgeous." Rella turned from the mirror just as Cindy walked in. "Cindy." Rella said with a smile. "You were always better looking as a bride." Rella scoffed. "That's a lie I've seen you in a wedding dress before and you looked ethereal." Cindy shrugged. She was wearing a royal blue mini tube dress and she'd gotten rid of the crutches. "Perhaps it has more to do with the perception of the person wearing it."

When I walk back into the room the girls let out excited squeals; clapping ecstatically as Raven rushes over to help me with my zip, fastening my dress in its place. “Here you go Cinderella,” Dakota teases as she leans across the bed handing me a pair of red bottom court heels; a dazzling glitter embedded gently across the leather sides, a subtle yet unique touch. After slipping my feet into the new heels we make our way downstairs as I put my shoulder cape jacket over my shoulders, hitching my dress up slightly, being careful not to step on the fabric and send myself tumbling down. “Jaylon doesn’t know I spent extra money embroidering his family’s crest.” She stepped back as Terez took the dress from its hanger and fluffed out the front, letting the bodice fall open for Becca to step into. “He’ll be both surprised and thrilled,” Lyssa said, helping her friend step into the full white skirt. “Why the hell did I pick a ball gown?” she grumbled, wiggling the bodice over her hips. “I’m going to look like a Christmas ornament.” “Stop that. The final effect will be worth the aggravation.” Lyssa turned her around, clasping Becca’s fingers to one of the posts on the bed. “Hang on, Cinderella.”
