Lena’s POV The city didn’t scream at first....it held its breath. From the edge of the forest, where broken roots gave way to asphalt and distant high-rises clawed at the sky, I saw it happen in impossible clarity as the ground beneath the city didn’t explode outward like a bomb. It unzipped. A single, blinding line of white light carved through the streets, slicing between buildings, beneath intersections, through everything humans had built without asking permission from the earth below. The light didn’t scatter debris.

Thomas said, “Open them slowly.” My heart hammered against my chest. I opened my eyes slowly, and the light I hadn’t seen in over a decade flooded my vision. I could see blurry silhouettes shifting in front of me. I could see a window. I could see the flowers. I could see the sunlight, trees, and birds outside the window. I could see them all. “I can see… Dr. Thomas, Julian, I can see!” This was a moment I had waited over a decade for. Dr. Thomas hurriedly said, “You mustn’t cry. Your eyes cannot handle any irritation right now.”

LAILA’S POV The city transformed under the cloak of night, revealing a different character altogether. It appeared cleaner, its edges sharper and more pronounced. The air felt colder, sharp enough to pierce the skin. And somehow, there was an honesty to it, as if the darkness was stripping away the pretense. From the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows of my hotel suite, the cityscape sprawled before me like a vast tapestry of lights. They twinkled endlessly, mimicking stars scattered across a cold and indifferent sky, each one a flicker of something deceptively enchanting.

It was cold then turned to hot moments later when Shani poured the black potion into the pot. Arkael was grunting now, I could see that he was hurting. I was looking at Shani, then to Walter thinking are we doing his wrong. Are we killing him? It looked like he was holding out on the pain like he was feeling more than he let out. I reached for Walt, as my energy started to diminish. Shani was quickly draining me, I saw flashes of images of Arkael's past then his life in the underworld. It was horrendously dark and sad at the same time. Shani was looking at me, just as she was also viewing at the flashes of images.

It was certainly an extraordinary journey, showing different stories, but at the same time touching the same topic - can two such opposing poles as Light and Darkness connect at some point? I'll leave it to your own choice, but one thing is for sure - as Miyuki said in Book 4, wanting to stop the battle between vampires and wizards - Light and Darkness certainly couldn't exist without each other. If there was only Light but no Darkness, what would be its meaning? Likewise, if there was only Darkness in the world, wouldn't its existence be pointless without trying to "devour" the Light?
