Just when I wasn’t expecting, he let out a soft exhale and adjusted his glasses. “Chemotherapy is a difficult procedure, Clara,” he admitted carefully. “For Maurice’s age, there are even more risks involved…. I’m sorry, but I can’t promise what the outcome will look like.” My throat tightened painfully. “But there’s a great chance for the treatment to work, right?” I asked weakly, trying to cling desperately to the little hope I had left.

She looked at me with surprise, almost as though she hadn't expected me to make the offer. “You don't have to.” “I know.” I walked toward the door. “Lucien.” I stopped. “Thank you.” I turned around, but she had already looked away. My body still felt weak, but after all I had gone through, I needed to free my mind. I took a long bath, changed into clean clothes, and carefully made my way downstairs. The estate was still enormous enough to make me feel lost, but at least walking gave me something else to think about.

With trembling fingers, she broke the seal. Inside was a single folded letter. Before either of them could unfold it— A familiar voice echoed softly through the room. “You finally found it.” Everyone turned. Standing in the doorway… was the Keeper. Only this time— He wasn’t alone. Behind him stood a young woman with gray-blue eyes, dark hair, and a knowing smile. She looked no older than twenty. Elaine stared at her. The young woman smiled warmly. “Hello.” She looked at Adrian. Then at Elaine. And quietly said the words that made time itself seem to stop. “I’m Clara.” To Be Continued…
