Five
We sit close, the aroma filling the room.
"I won't stay long, Sam. I need to sleep. I'm exhausted," I say, spearing the last meatball.
"Stay here. Tomorrow we'll leave together," he mutters with his mouth full.
I nearly choke. My heart jumps, my hands shake, something in my chest stirs in a way that feels almost dangerous.
"If you want to, of course," he adds.
"Of course. I'll go get my things and come right back."
