By the time I carried the tray back into the office, I had almost convinced myself this wasn’t embarrassing anymore. Almost. Employees accepted their cups gratefully. A few looked far too entertained by this situation. Traitors. Finally, I approached Zion’s office with the last cup. He barely looked up from his laptop as I placed it in front of him. Then he took one sip. And paused. Uh oh. “I drink my coffee black,” he said calmly. Silence. I blinked once. “No sugar.” I looked down at the cup. Cream. Sugar. Disaster. My soul temporarily left my body.

He ask when I am about to open the door already. My heart is beating so fast as I slowly faced him. "Uhm that's a coffee shake, Sir." I answered hesitantly. "I told you not to disturb me. Curious, I approach and see that a group of other maids are gathered there, chattering excitedly. I said a few words of greeting and I quickly made my way through the crowd and into the kitchen. I grab a clean mug from the cupboard and set it on the counter. I measure out the coffee beans and grind them using the electric grinder. The aroma of freshly ground coffee fills the kitchen and makes my mouth water. I add water to the coffee maker and turn it on. As I waited for the coffee to brew, a young lady in the maid's uniform walked up to me, her hair was red colored and she made it a habit to catwalk.

Cassy walked towards her and they both hugged. “Your cafe is so beautiful Cassy” “Thank you, come have a sit” She ushered Hanan to sit in a chair close by. “Mia” Cassy called one of her workers Mia approached “Yes Ma’am” Cassy turned to Hanan “What would you love to drink Hanan?” “Black coffee” “Uhooo, didn’t know you still love black coffee, it was your favorite in high school” “Yes it was” Hanan smiled “Get her a black coffee and me a cappuccino then some patries”

I didn't want her to notice that she was bugging me by just asking me that question so I politely responded. “It's a mocha green latte. With extra foam.” She visibly cringed and I rolled my eyes internally. I should have just kept the name to myself. “What's the extra foam supposed to do? Make it any less bitter?” “It's not bitter. It's healthy,” I insisted, hoping that she sensed the finality in my tone but apparently, she did not because she continued anyway. “Who wants to drink a green coffee? It's like they blended grass, put it in a cup, added some milk and served it to you.”

The attendant, a clean-cut, nice-looking man, moved towards him and bent down to take his order, his soft deodorant enchanting those around him. “Good morning, sir. What would you like to order this morning?” “I will like to order coffee. Which variants do you have?” “Anyone you like to order, sir, we have cappuccino, latte, and espresso, and we can even concoct any type you want, and oh, there’s instant coffee too,” teasing Cameron. “I will like the cappuccino, cream, and two sugars. Make it steaming hot.” "Yes, sir, coming right up,” he answered, noting some things in the little notepad he was holding.

Large I grabbed mine too and told everyone grab something if they wanted it. Large white chocolate hazelnut iced coffee with light ice and topped with whipped cream. Then I told everyone else to grab something if they wanted it. “Thank you,” she said reaching for it. I slid it away from her because it was not just that easy. The beans are imported, rare, and they need a very particular roast. The other ingredients are also really expensive.” She swallowed, glancing nervously between the man and the girls before finishing, “That’s why a single cup goes for… three hundred dollars.”

I don’t know if it’s from shame, or relief. A knock on the door shifts my focus. “Come in.” It’s the young maid, short with soft cheeks. She steps in, holding a tray with coffee. “I brought your usual, sir.” I reach for it, take a sip, then immediately set it down. “Why’s it so black?” I ask. She looks confused. “Because that’s how you always like it?” “Not today. Add milk. Please.” Her eyebrows rise like I just cursed. Then her mouth presses into a shy smile. “Okay, sir.”
