"Can I get two black coffees and a loaf of the sourdough?" The girl looked up. Her eyes, a sharp, striking hazel, scanned my face. She didn't look hostile, just highly observant. "You are new," she noted, wiping her hands on a rag. "Just passing through," I replied, keeping my tone casual. "Is the sourdough fresh?" "Baked it at dawn," she said, turning to grab a paper bag. She slid a heavy, crusty loaf inside and handed it across the counter. "I'm Maya. I run the caffeine and carbs operation in this sector."

Annoyed, I threw the cup on the floor and glared at my maid. “What the hell is this? Can anyone call this coffee? This is purely Chicory!” The maid took a step back in apprehension, lowering her eyes. “I’m sorry, Mr Anderson.” “What do you mean sorry? Did you forget how to make coffee?” “Actually, Mr Anderson, I don’t know how to make a good cup of coffee.” “What? But you've been making it for three years now.” “That wasn’t me, Mr Anderson.
