NARRATIVE 'Hahahaha,' Scarlett laughed, clapping her hands in feigned enthusiasm. 'That was such a fantastic line mother, you almost got me there.' She laughed emotionlessly again. Scarlett stood up shakily, her knees weak and her legs wobbly beneath her slender frame. She stares at Skylar as she laughed. 'Sky, did you see that? My mom's gotta be the best actress there is, don't you agree?' She laughed as she began walking aimlessly around, while shaking her head at intervals.

The comedian on stage was pretty good, cracking jokes about everything from bad dates to the weird things people do at the grocery store. I glanced over at Sarah, and every time she laughed, it was like a little weight lifted off my chest. Halfway through, the comedian launched into a bit about couples, poking fun at all the little things people do when they’re comfortable around each other. I leaned over to her, smirking. “That’s us,” I whispered. “You know, minus the weird grocery stuff.” “Oh, please,” she shot back, rolling her eyes. “You’re the one who insists on checking every single expiration date like it’s a life-or-death decision.”

But knowing that we were not alone in this whe began our trek up the stairs still laughing about some of things we could order for others in the compound to embarrass them. “I still say a blow up sex sheep for Antony will be the top. Just think about it. They have to open all packages at the gate to check them. Then they have to deliver it during the mail call at dinner. "I'm all ears." I started to cough, desperate to think of an excuse that wouldn't make me sound like a complete moron. "Um…we were just talking about…um, some funny movie I just saw?" "A funny movie," he repeated. His smirk grew, and he didn't believe me for a second. Quite rightly, really-we were crap liars. "Yeah!" Isabella jumped in, her voice a little over-eager. "It was a comedy. You know, one of those comedies that's really slapstick and goofy? Lots of…um…dancing?"

I say, looking between the two of them. “I’m sorry. Were you speaking? I think you need to get another hit of the helium balloon; you're losing your squeak.” Trevor says, rolling his eyes at me. Okay, I’m done with both of them. I turn around, raise my tail, and release my spray. When they start coughing and screaming, I laugh. Maybe being a skunk for a while won’t be such a bad thing.
