Coral explained as she opened the door to her room. Coral had asked her maids to set and decorate her room perfectly, by the concise description she had given them when she and Edla had come around earlier. There had been enough time to carry out the plans, with Coral who had given the princess a tour around their home. They made their way into the room as Coral pulled out a fancy chair from the below table, so Edla could take a seat where they could comfortably both sit. One of Coral's maid had entered immediately after, and served specially made snacks and fruit extracts to them.

When Corinne saw that Anya was about to look over her shoulder, she quickly took the photo out of the book and hid it in her sleeve. Anya did not see the photo, only the squiggly text on the book's pages. She frowned and asked, "Do you understand this text?" Corinne closed the book and put it back in its place. "I don't. I was just browsing through it! Let's continue with the rest of your house tour!" Anya was about to respond but was immediately interrupted by a sound.

I swear that thing was taller than him if we made it stand. We had pizza for lunch and voted that the bookstore would be our last stop. Rosie found the newest addition to a series of books she was collecting, and I stumbled upon a book illustrated by Jessica Wright. “This is the lady we met this morning!” Rosie exclaimed when I showed her. “It’s so pretty,” she awed as she opened it. It was a big, old-fashioned storybook, and Rosie was studying a whole page drawing of a princess. “We should buy it too,” I said, and Rosie gave me a huge smile.

But he didn't press the matter. He was too busy presently. Twillow stared at the illustrations and the fancily scrawled heading that read: Giants. The illustration looked like a horrible, drooling, sharp-toothed, yellow-eyed demon, with gray skin, a thick matted beard, and towered over the scribbled trees.

“It’s been driving me crazy since the day I arrived. And then just now, looking at it in the light… Just read it.” Curious, I bent over the book and skimmed the story. The initial illustration took up half the page, inked in faded black and red: a young woman at a vanity, combing her hair with a crescent pendant hanging at her throat. Behind her, half-hidden in the curtains, stood a hooded figure with long fingers and a smile full of jagged teeth. The crescent in the drawing was mine. Not similar. Mine, down to the slight asymmetry of the points.

The old book didn’t just feel warm; it pulsed in her hands like a living, sleeping heart. Cora ran her fingers over the embossed, unreadable script on the cover, the leather strangely supple against her skin. The library was silent, empty long past closing time, and the only light came from the green-shaded lamp on her desk. It was this silence, this profound loneliness, that made her trace the symbol in the center of the cover. A mistake, she would later think, but in that moment, it felt like an invitation.

I ask eagerly, winding my arm tightly around Sinclair’s as Cora comes to my side. “Iloveit,” she says, looking around at the antique Audubon bird prints that we’ve used to decorate the walls. “It’s so…simple, and chic. Rose reflipped with a heavy, leather-bound book that watched centuries old, and Harry cleared some space on the table. “So much for dinner,” Jeremy sighed. Ish shushed him with a firm look. Rose leafed through a few pages and then flipped the book around so Lily could see. Most of the page was filled with swirly, decorative script, but the bottom was illustrated with a scene of a tropical island. “Is that Moraji?” Lily said silently, studying the waterfall, craggy mountains, and golden strips of sand.

It stands alone, in the middle of the woods, surrounded by trees like a sacred temple. “There it is!" Coral whisper–yells, almost jumping with joy. I smile as well, but I still can't shake off the wary feeling. We walk up to the library and stop when we get to its huge black doors. I reach out to open it. " Wait!” Coral says, stopping me before I can even get hold of the door handle. " Something's wrong.” She presses her hand to her temple and shuts her eyes. " Are you okay?” " Yes but…" she trails off her expression wary. “I don't feel good. I feel odd, like there's something that doesn't want us to go in.”

Thursday Elle’s POV Before going into Alpha PataDiamante’s room, Elle saw Corvin haunting the halls and looking like a long-dead apparition, shadows fed by lack of color.
