The Court of Fire awakens. The silence stretches and I don’t miss that my mother’s face goes blank. “That shouldn’t be possible.” Cerelia’s eyes darken. “They’ve been dormant for centuries,” she agrees. “Even longer than that,” my mother murmurs. “They’re a myth in most places now. A forgotten pantheon.” I frown. “Who are they?” I’ve never heard the name before. “The Court of Fire,” Cerelia says slowly, “Was one of the ancient magical orders. Older than the veil, older than the split between magic and mundane. They were not gods. But they believed they were. And worse, they got people to believe them.”

She did not have enough time. She went into the cabinet which was lined with shelves and shelves of clothes. At one side the cabinet had rows of suits for men. Looked like Arya’s size. On the other side, there was a cabinet that had cocktail dresses and evening gowns hanging inside. The same cupboard also had shoes, stilettos and bellies along with handbags. She had to choose something that would help her escape easily. But first, she needed to call the girl who had made the distress call.
