Loud audio blasted from his phone, f‍ollowe‌d by unmistakable noises that made my stomach twist. P**n, h⁠e was entertaining h⁠imself. I⁠t was disgusti‌n‌g but right now it was the best possibl‌e distraction. I pushed my chair slowly toward⁠ the desk, dragging it inch by inch acr‍oss‌ the floor. Once close e‌nough, I pre‌ssed t‍he rope against the sharp‌ edge of the desk, hoping the friction might loosen⁠ or wea‌ken⁠ t‌he fibe‍rs.

His face was dripping with confusion and he looked so perplexed, that it only made me feel like an idiot. "I was... practicing my...escape methods?" I tried, but I knew it sounded lame. The Alpha's brows shot up, and I wished he'd stop staring at me like I had grown a second head. "Your escape methods involve bashing your brain cells out? Alright then, I suppose you see something new every day." He commented dryly, and my face colored. "It's called a distraction leap." "Ah." He said slowly. Making it very obvious he thought I was insane or full of crap.

He let out a breath and sat up, suddenly restless. “This is stupid,” he muttered, standing up abruptly. He needed to distract himself. Anything. He walked over to the television and switched it on, flipping through channels without really paying attention until he settled on a random movie. It played in front of him, voices filling the room, but he couldn’t focus. Five minutes passed. Maybe less. He picked up the remote and turned it off. Silence again. He rubbed his face with both hands and exhaled slowly. “Useless,” he muttered, more to himself than anything else.

Hastily grabbing a glass of water, Joshua gulped it down, his eyes never leaving the screen of his phone, absorbed in conversation. Seizing the opportunity while he was distracted, I surreptitiously glanced at the tantalizing food from the corner of my eye. Despite my inner resolve, the allure of the meal proved irresistible. The breakfast skillet beckoned with its golden-brown hash browns, each crispy edge promising a burst of flavor, mingling perfectly with the savory aroma of sizzling bacon and the earthy richness of sautéed vegetables.

I knew that time was the only true antidote to this self-inflicted torment. Slowly sipping the water, I retreated to the living room, sinking into the welcoming embrace of the couch. The remote control lay perfectly on the coffee table. a contradiction to the futile search for distraction during the long hours of the night. I decided to use that to my advantage. Quietly, I retreated a few steps to look for something that could create a small distraction—a noise, a dropped item, anything that would catch their attention. My heart pounded as I planned how to lure them away from the door, so I could slip into the room unnoticed.

Scrolling through my contacts, I found the number I was looking for and pressed dial. "Hey, it's Kira," I said when the call was answered. "I need a distraction. Are you free tonight?" The voice on the other end was familiar, flirting and annoying. "For you, always. What do you have in mind, devil?" I grinned, I need to be distracted, there's no room for weakness. "Something wild. I need to forget for a while."

I began, my voice steady, “I couldn’t help but notice—you seem like someone who appreciates an adventure.” She eyed me curiously, a smile playing on her lips. “I’m listening,” she replied, intrigued. I leaned in closer, lowering my voice to ensure our conversation remained private. “How would you like to make some easy money?” I proposed. Her interest visibly piqued, and I continued, “I need you to distract someone for me. Just a few minutes of flirting, nothing more.
