Foam gathers at the corner of her mouth. Then I hear the roar. No. Not just a roar. That roar. My heart freezes. I know that sound. The ground trembles as the shuck rips through everyone in its way. Its monstrous form tearing across the field. Daylight makes its fur look more like smoke than shadow. Dark oil slick skin, twisted fur that moves like fog, and those eyes—burning red. Hungry.
