They walked into town. Thankfully it was not a big crow, so it was not a long walk into town. The two slowly walked allowing Mary to take in as much scenery as she could. It was not like there was much to see, it was just a new place for her, so she was curious about everything.

Aurora’s POV Cayden and I rode in silence for most of the trip, the pine-scented wind splintering against our cloaks as we descended the narrow path toward the worker district. He bolted over the last rise with Pearl at his heels. The entrance to the cave was a churned-up mess, with wisps of dark smoke curling around the top edge of the unlit opening. His heart hammered a sick, awful beat as he ducked inside and hit the lights, bringing up the glows strung throughout the cave and illuminating a scene of utter chaos. And murder. Ava’s POV Sleep was a stranger that night. I had tossed and turned until the moon itself had traveled halfway across the sky, the glow through my curtains mocking my exhaustion. My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin, as though aware of my turmoil but refusing to share its calm with me. Every breath in the dark felt stifling, every thought circling back to Diego, to Sage, to the chains of my family’s expectations. I finally pushed the covers off with a sigh and padded to my balcony doors. The air outside was cool and heavy with the faint scent of rain. The courtyard below looked peaceful, but peace was the last thing inside me.

I rushed over to slam the door shut. But Jessica only smirked disdainfully and pressed a hand firmly against the door, rendering it immobile. "Oh, save it," she sneered and shoved her phone right in my face. "Mindy Newman, I'm warning you—stay away from Bart. What makes you think a lowly human like you is worthy of seducing a noble werewolf warrior? You'd better not sleep too deeply tonight." Her voice dropped low, her eyes venomous. "Because a he-wolf in heat has a very keen sense of smell."

Mara sits on the back of an ambulance in a blanket and curses anybody who tries to call her brave. Rook has found a cigarette from nowhere and is smoking with the vicious concentration of a man who has earned every drag.
