SINFUL DESIRES
The sky behind them was still dark, the storm’s anvil spreading eastward, but ahead the light was different, the late afternoon sun coming through underneath the cloud deck and turning the wheat fields amber.
“That’s it,” he said.
“The data from the tornado,” she said. “The surface observations you were making.”
“I’ll write it up tonight,” he said.
“The inflow winds at 13:31,” she said. “I couldn’t see that on radar. The estimate I gave you was fifteen to twenty knots. What were you reading on the portable?”
“Twenty seven,” he said. “Gusting to thirty two.”
She made the note.
“That’s a significant difference,” she said.
