The nearest demons cried out as the magic scorched their skin. “You will obey,” he said, his voice was like grinding stone. Silence. Then slow, reluctant bows. Satisfied, Shade turned toward the vision swirling inside his mind. He saw the training grounds—the child glowing with stormlight, the woman whose scent carried life. His smile deepened. “The unborn and the stormborn,” he whispered. “Both belong to me now.” Back on the mountain, the air shifted again. Thorn felt it first. The wards trembled. Power rippled through the soil.

The line was said to be cursed, extinguished by fire and war.

"You came out looking like a porcupine." Thorne barked a laugh. "And you tripped over your own tail laughing instead of helping. Good times." Their camaraderie highlighted the loyalty in Shadowfang, but it only deepened my dread. These wolves were Draven's family in all but blood, and they would turn on me in an instant, if they knew. The hallucinations fed on it: whispers turning to visions of Draven's parents, accusatory stares fixed on me. During a narrow pass, the curse struck hard. Thorne halted suddenly, he raised his axe, eyes locked on Renn ahead. "You traitor!" he snarled, swinging wildly.

The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains, casting fractured patterns on the floor — much like my thoughts, splintered and jagged. She cursed and her vision blurred and a sharp pain flared between her eyes. That wasn’t as impressive as she expected, then cursed herself for doing something just because it’s what they did in the movies. The two human brutes pulled back on her chains and she cried out as the chains burned and sunk into her flesh. Xavier got up, cursing, and wiping the blood from his face. He looked at her in pure rage.

Long, crouched near the roof hatch with a scoped rifle, murmured, “There are more of them. We're close… The Vale of Thorns is just beyond that ridge.” Emma’s heart sank. The trees around them twisted unnaturally, gnarled and sharp like claws. The Vale of Thorns. A forgotten land buried in legends. A place where dark magic had once been practiced before the world decided to forget it. Now, it had returned—and so had its horrors. “Hold on!” Marcus shouted, slamming the steering wheel hard to the left. A screech tore through the air as a grotesque infected wolf, nearly three times the size of the others, rammed into the side of the armored vehicle. The world flipped.

I could feel my flesh burning and I winced in pain. “Stop running. You’re only going to suffer more,” he said as he entered the broken door. I ignored what he said and continued climbing up the stairs. It only took me a couple of seconds before I reached the line of tables in the very middle. The entire library was not in total darkness because of the light slipping through the glass windows from the outside. I ran to the east wing and hid behind the tall shelves while catching up my breath. The werewolf’s footsteps echoed in the air.

Author's POV Darkness...Darkness and Darkness are all she could see. Darkness surrounded her like the ocean, she was looking for brightness in that peach darkness. Sweating profusely, Koushalya licked her dry lips to hydration. her mind was blocked from all possible ways to get out of the Darkness. her eyes flinched with hope when she saw a ray of brightness appearing to clear her Path. " koushy....koushy...." Koushalya was pulled out from the deep slumber she was drawing in. her mother was standing near her head and yelling her name.

But the Wyres are dangerous. Their bite is lethal to Shifters and, if you do survive, you turn into one of them. The curse is transferred through your bloodstream, killing your spirit and replacing it with a monster. They’ve been trying to get their revenge ever since, killing us simply because of an old myth that might not even be true. But, to be fair, we kill as many of them as they kill us. If there are talks of peace, that would be…historical. Impossible. And definitely something I deserve to know about as Princess.
