Margot blinked her doe-like eyes as she gazed at the man before her. Her voice became increasingly faint. "Can't I call you 'Curt'? Your name is Curtis Crosby, right?" She didn't know why she had to call him "Curt", but it seemed very befitting for him. Curtis found himself unable to speak. As he gazed at the individual before him, the sound of her calling him "Curt" lingered in the air, a comforting familiarity that hinted at positive prospects.

Not with the way grief twisted him into something unrecognizable. The front porch creaked as I stepped out. A slow wind rolled through the trees, whispering down the mountain like it was mourning with me. The Den wasn’t far. The walk gave me time to breathe, to brace myself. The forest was quiet today—almost too quiet. Even the birds kept their distance, like they knew the valley was in mourning. As I neared the clearing, I saw them. Curt stood by the edge of the fire pit, arms folded, head bowed. His hair was longer now, braided back like the Sentinels wore it, and his frame had thickened—muscle carved from years of training. He looked older. Sadder.

"She doesn't just walk down that road in the middle of a downpour to have tea with Mira. Not after the ridge. Not after what happened at the northern sector." Curtis took his hands off the table and leaned back in his chair, the wood giving a sharp creak that seemed to linger in the corners of the room. He reached into his vest pocket, pulled out a small piece of twine, and began tying a knot into the center of it, his thumbs working the coarse hemp over and over. "People go home when they run out of places to go," Curtis said.

Everyone had guns strapped to their backs and clothes and a bag hung to our back. Well, we are not soldiers by profession but we are turned one by some strange and threatening events which threatens the well being of humanity. A virus broke out not quite long, a very rare and dangerous virus that doesn't kill immediately but turned one to a giant creature with green spots on the body and long fang and claws, a beast, more like a beast of destruction. Only the lucky ones get turned into a beast while the others died instantly, or some died 3hours after being bitten. The shadow of Curt Benton was a shield no one wanted to test. As the moon began to dip behind the peaks, Curt’s assistant checked his pocket watch and leaned in close to the old wolf’s ear. "Elder Benton, the healers insisted you return to your den for your tonic. They were very specific about the timing tonight," the man whispered. "The tonic those hacks brew is more bitter than a winter frost and does nothing but turn my gut," Curt snorted, sounding more like a stubborn pup than a powerful lord. "I finally track down Logan and you want to drag me away from the fire? Give me another hour."

I choke out around the embarrassing lump in my throat. "Okay, Granddad, don't scare her. I'm going to get her home. Colt, see you at 8," Curt says as he steers us away from his family. ******** "Night see you tomorrow," Curt says as he kisses my forehead. I smile and nod. "Hey, after I get my car back, it is my turn to drive us around for a while," I say as he walks towards the stairs. "Deal, Doll," Curt says. ******** CURT POV

The mental states of everyone involved were all under Cindy’s control. Curt was somewhat happy in his new care facility. Though the charges were never going to be dropped for him, the center he was in was a good fit and would watch him for the rest of his days. He had no concept that his mother, sister, and father were all gone. Kit could remember a conversation that she had with Randy a few years ago about Curt at a family thing. “Someday, he is going to be by himself,” Randy said. “But I mean he has the rest of us. We will all help out.” Kit said.

Slowly, he stepped forward, dragging his toes slightly as he walked. And something inside me shifted. There he is. Cassandra’s son. Victor’s blood. My nephew. He’s smaller than I imagined. Softer, too. But those eyes… they carry something of Cassandra—quiet strength wrapped in wonder. This is my nephew… I knelt down so I was at his height. “Hey, kid,” I said, trying not to sound like I just swallowed gravel. “I’m Adrian.” He blinked. “Are you the man with the big bike?”

Curtis shot forward, got his hands around Lloyd’s collar. He slammed the man back against the wall, and shook him. “I said for you to shut the fuck up about her,” Curtis hissed. “I was clear, so you’re obviously as dumb as you look. Now. What the fuck do you want?”

Seconds later all the people were caught up in it, screams of agony could be heard, and they all scratched their bodies, begging for it to go all away. Not that seeing it on their body was causing the screams, but rather the pain they felt, it was like they were set on fire right from the inside. Moments overdue, there was no one present in the bar anymore, all of them had decayed and turned into powdered ashes. Nagato became calm, no one was certain to mess with him, and still live, this is the price for it and also the price for witnessing his curse gift, he reasoned out and then transformed slowly back into a human.
