I want to lash out and smash up whatever is making the noise but my body isn’t cooperating one little bit. My stomach feels like it’s burning from the inside out; my arms are like lead, and my throat is so dry, I could light a fire up in there! I feel like I’ve been through a week of hard ass training which ended with a gruelling combat. I want to hide and fill up on codeine and vodka!

Ezio gritted his teeth and spoke in difficulty. He felt like he was suffocated by the immense pain that radiated within his body.

The rest of the sentence falls away. I feel like crap. It feels as if I was hit by a truck. But the throbbing mostly resides in my chest rather than my arms. I’m sore, but it’s not as painful as it should be. The lump in my chest however, weighs heavily on me. It nearly suffocates me.

The sudden tension in my frame caught him instantly. "Clarissa?" His dark eyes snapped straight down to my face. His brow pulled tight, his voice dropping into a rough, immediate rasp. "What is it? What hurts?" I couldn't speak for a second. I just pressed my palm flat against my lower stomach, right where that tiny, strange press had just pulsed against my muscles. It wasn't pain. It wasn't a cramp or an ache. It felt like a small flutter, like a tiny bubble bursting right beneath my skin.
