I don't resist, I just drop my head back down and wait for more pain. It starts as a low buzzing that's more of a tingly feeling than painful. I shift in the seat while Adrian just stands back and watches. He turns it up a little and Damian groans quietly. It's uncomfortable now, like the beginning of a cramp that you don't want to get any worse.

Then the cramp hit. It didn’t feel like the mild ones I’d had before. This one grabbed low and deep, a hard band squeezing me from inside. I hunched forward, hissed air between my teeth, and waited for it to pass. “Okay… okay,” I whispered. “Breathe.” It didn’t let go. It spread, hot and fierce, around my back and down my thighs. I pressed a hand flat to my stomach. The skin felt tight, stretched, too heavy.

“Yeah. Hurts, but... It’s better than with the tube.” “I’d imagine so.” Dr. Diaz pulled a stethoscope from her pocket. “I need to listen to your chest. This might be uncomfortable.” The cold metal against my skin made me flinch. I focused on the ceiling tiles as she moved the stethoscope methodically across my chest, careful to avoid the bandages. “How do you feel? Besides the obvious pain I mean,” she asked as she returned the stethoscope to her pocket. “Congested,” I said. "Like...breathing underwater. And there's a pressure, here.” I lifted my hand weakly to indicate the center of my chest.

“Before we begin, I want to ask—was there anything you didn’t mention earlier? Anything else you’ve been feeling that you might have forgotten to say?” The woman hesitated for a moment. She bit her lip as if debating whether to speak. Sophia noticed the hesitation. “You don’t have to be afraid. Anything you tell me will help me understand your condition better.” The woman sighed and nodded. “Actually, there is something else.” Sophia waited patiently. The woman took a deep breath. “Sometimes, I feel like my chest gets tight. It’s not exactly pain, but it feels like there’s pressure, like something heavy is sitting on my chest. It lasts for a few minutes and then goes away.”

I had so much going on that I could not think straight. I was so upset at myself about all of this that my head was actually starting to hurt. It almost felt like there was a steady pounding going on, almost like someone was hitting me in the head with something, only from the inside out. All at once I placed both of my hands on either side of my head and squeezed then together hard. I made sure to hold the cloth to my body with my arms as I did not want to reveal myself to him again, not like this. I was trying to lessen the pain by pushing in as my head felt like it was trying to push out. I was only trying to ease the pain and tension inside my head. Nothing I did seemed to help in any.

Suddenly, I feel it again. The invisible pressure. It’s heavy and suffocating. It locks my limbs in place, like I’ve been pinned by an unseen weight.

It feels as if my blood struggles to flow freely, hindered by the unyielding pressure. But the torment doesn't end there. A similar sensation grips my waist, as if a serpent has slithered its way around me, coiling tightly and constricting my every breath. The grip is suffocating, leaving me gasping for air, as if the very life force within me is being slowly squeezed away.

I place my hands on either side of my head and clench my eyes shut tightly. I don’t know what this is or how to make it better, but I plan to try any and everything. I twist left and right and left again on the bed willing this unpleasantness to stop.

It was fear. I pulled a chair closer to him, setting down my clipboard. “The nurse said you experienced some discomfort. Tell me what’s going on.” He exhaled heavily, running a hand through his hair. “It wasn’t... it wasn’t that bad,” he said, his voice quieter than usual. “Just a tightness. Like my chest was being squeezed. It passed after a few minutes.” I nodded, keeping my tone neutral. “And your blood pressure dropped. That could be a result of stress, or—”
