Damien still didn't respond, but his gaze finally met mine-blank, guarded, waiting for me to continue.
"Why were you smoking and drinking?" I asked, my tone more serious now. "You look terrible. Did something happen?"
Damien let out a deep sigh, his shoulders sagging slightly. "I'm just... lost."
"You won't be if you open up to me," I said gently. "You know you can tell me anything."
He flinched-subtle, but I caught it-before turning back toward his desk and taking his seat.
"It's just the Raven," he said, his voice tight. "That's all. And I don't want you to worry. You're already dealing with your own family issues."
