No body, no proof, just a silence that grows longer with each minute. Damian sat behind me on the deck, leaning his back against a box. His shoulders were slumped in a way that was new to me. His face seemed older, with lines made deep by loss, fear, and not enough sleep at night. When the medics checked him, he waved them off at first, pride still clinging to him like a habit he could not drop. Then his strength gave out all at once, and he sank back down, taking a sharp, defeated sounding breath. I moved closer to him, but Adrian got there first and steadied his shoulder without saying anything.

I found myself going after them and stood at a corner staring at them… Damian took his shirt off so the doctor could get a better view of his injury and surprisingly it was indeed a serious injury which truly required medical attention but there he was looking so cold and expressionless … He didn't flinch and sat straight as the doctor began disinfecting his injuries… In no time they were stitching it up and Damian still didn't flinch and made me wonder if he truly doesn't feel pain. Does that mean he won't feel pain even if he gets shot or got knocked over by a car?

We ran to the second helicopter. The medics were already there, working on Damian. He was pale, his eyes closed, an oxygen mask over his face. Lucian stopped. He stared at his brother. "Is he...?" "He lost a lot of blood," the medic said. "Concussion. Two broken ribs. But he’s stable." Lucian let out a breath that sounded like it was dragged from the bottom of his soul. He knelt beside the stretcher. He took Damian’s hand. "Damian?"

One of the nurses finished adjusting Damian’s IV line before quietly stepping back, though her attention kept drifting toward him like she still could not fully believe he was awake after flatlining less than an hour earlier. “You really should still be unconscious,” she muttered softly. Damian glanced toward her briefly. “I considered it.” The dry response caught her off guard enough that she almost smiled despite herself before quickly regaining professionalism. I moved closer toward the bed again while Lucien continued discussing board alignments with Alexander near the far side of the room, and as Damian’s eyes lifted toward me, some of the sharpness faded slightly from his expression. The Queen turned to the King, her mouth opening to argue, but his raised hand silenced her. Damien’s shadow fell over me as he crouched slightly, his voice low enough for only me to hear. “Don’t look, little flame,” he murmured, the words gentle despite the tension in his tone. “You don’t need to see this.” The trapdoors fell with a sickening thud. My father, my mother, my brother—gone. A scream tore from my throat, raw and uncontrollable. I collapsed to the ground, my legs giving out beneath me. I didn’t need to see it; the sound alone was enough to shatter what was left of my heart.

His eyes scanned through the screen for about two minutes. Damien patted my head as I hugged and leaned on his groin. "She took her own life babe. You don't need to beat yourself up about it” Damien comforted me. He scrolled out of the news feed before returning the laptop to me. " You don't need to think about it ok? “ He kissed my cheeks. He was about leaving when I stopped him again. " Damien, how is Yu? “ I asked, softly. Damien sighed and turned to me,"He is still at the hospital and he is getting better. We will be having him soon” he responded.

The three adults sat together against the curved wall, breathing heavily, bodies covered in cuts and bruises. Kael broke the silence first. “I almost lost control back there. If Liora hadn’t called me back…” Serena leaned her head on his shoulder. “We all almost broke.” Damien was unusually quiet, staring at the floor with distant crimson eyes. Serena noticed.
