"I was so scared for you. Where did you go?" "You okay?" Xenos asked me. I nodded and smiled at him. Before I could reply to Adalyn's question, the principal spoke first. His voice was amplified with the help of magic. "Students. I'm glad to bring to your attention the retreat of the monsters outside the ward. Just as I had promised, the ward held, so be rest assured that you are completely safe here." I wasn't so sure about that. We still didn't know what that black mist in my room was.

Chapter Nineteen – You’re cool. Damien finally got to the speakers' table. He exhaled as he sat down, taking his phone out to call Debby as he didn’t see her seated. On second thoughts, he decided to ignore her. It wasn’t her first time in that part of the US so she knew her way around. Also they hadn’t settled after she degraded his wife. He looked up, trying to find his wife amongst the crowd. Lots of girls seemed to be wearing that color, pink and red. Perhaps the girls of the university had a dress code.

I spent the entire day indoors. Damien walked in at 3:26pm and froze at the door. He met me while watching a series of horror movies and he couldn’t believe his eyes. “Since when?” He finally spoke up as he locked the door and walked to the closet. He got out of the closet and my eyes didn’t flinch away from the Tv.

I repeat, tasting the word on my tongue. "We are monsters, aren't we?" Nicodra asks deviously. "Yes, we sleep in beds and bathe in showers, eat with forks and knives—cooked foods—but we're beasts. I had heard that a woman of your pack killed her mate. Bizarre, isn't it?" "Tragic, I think," I answer. "I can't lie, it's been on my mind. Horrible, terrible thing." David says, "We're choosing to move on from the incident."

The penthouse felt too quiet and too big. The elevator chimed around midnight. Damien walked in. His shirt was half unbuttoned, showing his tattooed chest and hard muscles. He looked like he had been drinking. He saw me on the couch and walked straight over. “Drinking alone, stepmother?” he asked. “Waiting for my father again?” I stood up. “I am not waiting for anyone. I just want peace.” “Peace?” He stepped closer. “You will never have peace here. You sold yourself to a monster. My father destroys everything he touches.”

🌹 Damien 🌹 The underground safehouse was dimly lit, the harsh fluorescent lights flickering intermittently as the team settled into a rare moment of calm. The air was thick with exhaustion, the weight of their near-constant battle settling heavily on each member of the group. Damien leaned against a table, eyes closed, taking in the muffled sounds of distant gunfire and the steady hum of the bunker’s generators. It had been a long day—too long. The chaos of the mission still lingered in his mind, but for the first time in days, the team had found a brief window to breathe. They were alive. For now, that was enough.

Damien got closer to Kol, ignoring the rest of us that were present in the room. "You call that horrible? That was going to be an easy and silent death. You should thank your stars that your mate here is reasonable and loves you all with her whole heart. If she were to care less about you and refuse my demands, then believe me, I would have showed you what a true horrible death is. And after showing it to you, you will get to experience it firsthand." This time, Damien didn't care if I was present to see the monster that he really was by saying those words.

Seraphina’s POV I slept not a wink at all that night of the Voidhollow attack. Every time I closed my eyes, I could see claws cutting through the air, the monster’s blank eyes glinting at me, the flames igniting from my own skin. Kael’s gold eyes had flashed with fury, Lucian’s smile had twisted with greed, and Auren had loomed as a blazing sun. Even wrapped in the blankets of my dorm bed, I could feel the burning echo of that moment.

Why the hell did I think this was a good idea? I thought of the photo of my dad’s corpse—pale, drained, abandoned in a filthy alley. “What am I?” Damien pressed. “A monster. Like all of your kind.” Damien laughed, but his eyes stayed cold. “Petty humans,” he muttered, his voice thick with contempt. “I will marry your mother. And there’s nothing a brat like you can do about it. Now—get out.” My legs moved on instinct. Only once I’d exited the building entirely did I finally exhale. Damn that devil.

Mason staggered forward, blood smearing his shirt, his face pale. "You’re making a mistake," he rasped. "He’s not on our side." Evelyn didn’t look at him. She couldn’t—not when the guilt of Emily’s body still lay between them. "I know," she said. "I know exactly what he is." Her eyes locked with Damian’s again. A monster. And now, for the first time in her life, Evelyn was about to fight monsters—by becoming one. Damian stepped closer, his voice dropping low enough that only she could hear.
