Everyone is drinking and dancing, grinding against each other in a wild display. In the midst of the dancers, I spot my friend. A few minutes after we arrived, a guy came up to her and asked to dance. There's something about the guy that I don't like. I can't put my finger on it, but it is probably something to do with that ridiculous nose ring. It is just not a good look for him. I press my fingers to my head as a piercing headache takes root. I need some quiet. It is all too much - the noise, the smoke, the crush of bodies. I need to escape.

The music was loud, a mix of upbeat pop and hip-hop that made the floor vibrate beneath us. Sophie quickly introduced us to a few new people. There was Claire, her bubbly roommate, who was already tipsy and giggling uncontrollably. Mark, a tall guy with messy hair, was setting up a beer pong table in the corner. The next song playing turned out to be about friends by Bebe Rexha and I momentarily glanced at Susie before joining in the chorus. "Fuck fake friends! We don't need them. I looked at my dress again, “I do not understand what you mean. This happens to be one of my favourite dresses. Roy got it for me some months back.” “And this man claims he loves you? Honey, that's a hideous dress.” I rolled my eyes, “fortunately for the dress and I, we do not need your opinion. I love the dress and I'm going in it. Besides, I do not have the time to change.” Jax tilted his head and looked at me from head to toe with a frown that really got to my nerves. “This is possibly gonna be the best day of my life and all you can do is criticise me?” I pouted, “what kind of a best friend are you?”

Our class president starts to announce the winners for things like most likely to succeed, best couple, prom king and queen, and I'm surprised when I hear that I was voted female with the prettiest eyes.
