"We have a warrant of arrest, Ma'am," he once showed me on a piece of paper. "A-A what?"

Laura's POV. The sharp chiming of the doorbell rang through my quiet apartment. I walked over to the front door and leaned looking through the small glass peephole. My heart dropped into my stomach when I recognized the tall silhouette of one of Damian’s bodyguards standing out in the hallway. Taking a steadying breath, I unlocked the door and opened it slowly. "The boss wants to see you," he said, his face completely blank. Shock hit me all at once. Damian is here? Right now? I didn't say a word, just stepped out and followed him down into the damp air. The weather was very cold, feeling like it could burst into rain at any time.

Darrow. “Boss!” he shouted, already firing. “DOWN!” His men opened fire with precision, scattering the Black Reapers like roaches under a spotlight. Tires screeched. Two of the bikers whose rides I’d crippled scrambled toward a waiting black sedan and SUV parked in the shadows across the street. Engines roared. The sedan and SUV tore off into the night, skidding around the corner and vanishing like phantoms into smoke. I didn’t even bother asking my men to go after them.
